Putin holds council meeting on domestic security following 3 airbase 'explosions'

One anonymous Western official at the time told Reuters that Ukraine was seeing "kinetic effects" behind Russian lines, which was having "a significant psychological effect on the Russian leadership."

The U.K. defense ministry pointed out that the Monday "explosions" were more significant given their locations hundreds of miles across Russian borders.

At least two Tu-95 BEAR heavy bombers were damaged in the explosions and three people were reportedly killed.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday called a meeting with his security council to discuss the country's domestic defenses after three airbases saw "explosions" this week.

Russian officials looked to shore up the nation's "internal security."

The meeting took place just hours after a third airbase was struck in the Russian city of Kursk north of the Ukrainian border and one day after explosions were reported at two separate airbases hundreds of miles inside Russian territory.

The regional governor of Kursk said an oil storage tank had been set ablaze, but no casualties have yet been reported, according to Reuters.

The U.K. defense ministry on Tuesday said the cause of the explosions had still not been confirmed but noted that if Russia determines the strikes were deliberate, then Moscow will likely consider them the "most strategically significant failures of force protection" since it invaded Ukraine nine months ago.

"The Russian chain of command will probably seek to identify and impose severe sanctions on Russian officers deemed responsible for allowing the incident," Britain’s defense ministry assessed.

Russia saw two similar explosions earlier this year when its naval headquarters for the Black Sea fleet was hit in Crimea just weeks after the Novofedorivka airbase – also in Crimea – saw at least nine warplanes destroyed in a separate explosion.

This must be serious if Bad Vlad (The anti-globohomos savior for the Ron Paulist faction FReepers) is calling a meeting of his security council. Pooty better keep an eye eye on his Chef, Yevgeny Prigozhin, who is angling to replace Vlad with his Wagner Group (private army) in the Kremlin. Teaming up with Chechen Muslim mastermind Kadyrov (private army) to putsch Putin.

Vlad Putin- Beware the ides of March. You are dead or deposed by then.

I think Russian may soon regret escalating to mass drone strikes, since Russia itself seems to have no defense system to respond to those kind of strikes, and Ukraine can now produce their own long range drones...

Apparently, you been sleeping under a rock for the past few months as the Russians just hammer missile and drone strike Ukrainian energy, etc. infrastructure?

Ukraine likewise has no “defense system to respond to those kind of strikes”?!

“Ukraine likewise has no “defense system to respond to those kind of strikes”?!”

Actually, that’s false. Ukraine has already received some systems capable of defeating drone strikes, they just don’t have enough to cover the whole country. Still better than Russia’s situation, since Russian has zero capable defense systems and a much larger area they need to defend.

I bet Ukraine had help from MI6 or CIA or who knows. But, in the end, this will only make things worse for Ukraine. What if Russia get so angry that Putin blows up the whole of Eastern Ukraine with Nukes or Vacuum Bombs? Would the US launch a nuke strike and risk total Nuke war—and the end of everything—I think Not.

Remember when Mathias Rust flew from Finland into Red Square? Was 1987.

On May 28, 1987, West German Private Pilot Mathias Rust managed to make international headlines by flying his Reims Cessna 172P from Helsinki Finland to a spectacular landing in Moscow’s Red Square. His flight was both an amazing achievement, and an immense humiliation to the Soviet War Machine. Indeed, Gorbachev would attempt to use the fallout from this event to purge anti Glasnost and Perestroika elements from the Soviet Military. His success may be gauged by the Anti-Glasnost Coup of August 1991, which in its own way was a last-ditch effort by the Old Guard of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union to maintain the old order.

Oh no, the Boy Who Cried Nuke might Cry Nuke again. Totally not a sign of desperation because they can’t win a conventional war against a tiny country that posed no threat to them.

“Remember when Mathias Rust flew from Finland into Red Square? Was 1987.”

His Cessna was seen, a MiG23 intercepted it and identified it as a small sport plane. He was refused permission to engage. It was allowed to proceed. It wasn’t that it wasn’t detected.

Ukraine is about to have the Special Military Operation turn into a war if they aren’t careful.

Ukraine performing deep strikes in Russia will drive Putin to escalating responses. This man has an arsenal of chemical weapons and has used them before. Striking an airbase that houses strategic bombers 600km in Russia is cute, and had NATO support, but Russia in not known for restraint when it feels threatened. The average Russia knows this war would be over if not for American intervention, and that it is western arms killing Russians. Since the Cuban Missile Crisis we have had a policy of avoiding direct confrontation with Russia. The Biden state department gave the green light to Putin, then piled on to “ Bleed the Russian Military”, their words, not mine. Stupid is as Stupid does. We will regret this. We think that Russia is losing because they are inept. It’s losing because the politicians haven’t unleashed all of Russia’s capabilities to wage war. Look at what politics did to us in Korea,Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Mexico. My hope is that we can get a settlement before it escalates out of hand. It’s headed to a nasty ending.

Vlad Putin- Beware the ides of March. You are dead or deposed by then.

Then what? Vlad will be replaced by an Ultra Nationalist and will turn Ukraine into one huge smoking hole. The only thing stopping Russia from turning Ukraine into a heap has been Vlad, he has shown much restraint.

You war cheerleaders really need to re- think your desire for a pound of flesh. What is obvious- Evil is destroying Evil, support Peace, this war, war war mentality is getting tiring.

So why is Ukraine sitting in rolling black outs and de- energization? This regional conflict will end when Vlad decides, and there is nothing the West can do about it.

Get used to it.

As I said in my comment, if you had bothered to read it, they haven’t received enough of these defense systems to cover the entire country. But at least they have some coverage, which appears to be more than Russia can say.
