President Biden is facing an outcry from the White House press corps for the “petty” exclusion of journalists from the traditional presidential media Christmas parties.
In a seeming break from Biden’s pledge to restore “civility” to public life, a number of journalists — many believing themselves excluded for “naughty” rather than “nice” coverage — didn’t get invites to the glam soirees on Dec. 8 for TV teams and on Dec. 13 for other press.
The holiday fests are prized perks of the beat for media that cover the White House because attendees can bring a guest and usually score a photograph with the president while sipping eggnog in the grand rooms on the main floor of the White House.

How can a President that has avoided for 2 years a real freewheeling press conference for hours without a call on list be a champion of a free press?

And the soy eggnog was a huge hit.
Many companies quit doing Christmas parties due to liability issues for alcohol served.
Many now give out certificates for a turkey with a local grocery.

30 or 40 years ago, such an attempt to suck up to those in power would have *not* been the goal of journalists; which is to say actual journalists. Now, with few exceptions, what gets labeled a “journalist” is nothing more than a PR flack for the DNC. You can now just about count the number of independent journalists on one hand.
There is no act of depravity and hatefulness and pettiness and intentional undermining of civic principles that this White House can engage in that will cause his supporters to prefer a Nazi (i.e. Trump, in how they see him). So if that is what people here are hoping, an “I’ve had enough” moment, it is not going to come.

For 364 days you can’t stand the weasel backstabbers you are in close proximity for 50 hrs./ week minimum and all the lying, backstabbing, delay games, and general sand in the gear project management which occurs. Then by some diktat, all is forgotten and comity reigns or 1 day? Sorry, I would just as soon be consistent-

If reporters want their pictures taken with senile old men they should visit the local nursing home dementia wings.
Oh I can: supervisors and managers at the Defense Contract Audit Agency, the most humorless and obtuse people I have ever known.
That’s about my feeling. I live local but have worked from home for about 5 years. I don’t even know most of my “colleagues” anymore and there’s only one I actually consider a friend.

It’s Biden’s party and the invitations are not an entitlement.
Let’s remember this for 2025 when a Republican takes over the White Hut.
His handlers cant allow him to interact with press unscripted and without moderation.
They might actually see the real Joe.
