Elementary school under investigation after principal accused of segregating students into classrooms based on race

November 14, the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights launched a federal investigation into an Atlanta elementary school following allegations made by a parent that the principal was segregating students into certain classrooms based on race, CNN reported.

The Office for Civil Rights wrote in a letter obtained by the news outlet that it would investigate the accusations that Atlanta Public Schools subjected students “to different treatment based on race” and whether the district retaliated against the parent’s complaint.

The investigation into the district was launched over a year after Kila Posey, a mother of two, filed a civil rights complaint against Mary Lin Elementary School.

Posey, a black woman, told CNN in a September 2021 interview that Principal Sharyn Briscoe, also a black woman, was segregating black children into certain classrooms.

At the time, Posey explained that she discovered Briscoe had designated two of the six second-grade classes for black students when she requested that her daughter be moved to a particular teacher’s classroom.

In an interview with WSB-TV last year, Posey alleged that Briscoe responded by telling her that the class she wanted her daughter in was “not one of the black classes.” According to Posey, Briscoe said that her child would be isolated.

“First, it was just disbelief that I was having this conversation in 2020 with a person that looks just like me — a black woman,” Posey said. “It’s segregating classrooms. You cannot segregate classrooms. You can’t do it.”

According to the original complaint filed by Posey, the school’s assistant principal admitted in a recorded phone call that she was aware Briscoe had separated the students. In the recorded call, the assistant principal can be heard stating that “class lists are always tough” and that she wished more black children were attending the school.

I don't see the problem. Schools often do this according to learning ability—bright students in one class, not so bright students in another. It helps everyone.

In the 1960s, Gov. George C. Wallace said adult liberals are using little school children to force integration by laws on busing and ruin their educations because they’re too cowardly to try it on adults.

Separate classes and schools by race? Can’t have that.

Until 2022.

RE: separations by skills and intelligence....

True “track” system has been true for a long time.
But watch out, FRiend. It could lead to other separations....

President Biden once said:
“We have this notion that somehow if you’re poor, you cannot do it. Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids,” Biden, who is running for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, said during a town hall in Des Moines with the Asian and Latino Coalition.

He paused, then quickly clarified, “wealthy kids, black kids, Asian kids.”

I am all for it, anything the school system can do to make sure no White Privilege rubs off on a black person, is a good thing.

Classifying students by ability if anything helps smart black kids who are often tormented by their own kind for "acting white".

In the black community, being polite, punctual, studying, and doing your homework is considered "acting white" which is considered a sin. It's better for a smart black kid to be placed with other hard working students.

I'm thinking in this day and age where a kid can pick his/her/its own gender..... if you let the kids pick their own classroom they will self segregate on their own.....

Cant have that!!!

Separating by learning ability is completely different than separating the students by skin color.

It’s different today. This school was doing it in order to create a safe place for people of color and to allow all the students to be taught just how evil white people are.

I have been told that now, until they are in subjects that require prerequisites, they can no longer separate student based on general abilities.

Yep, gifted students now are in the same classroom as Johnny-can’t-read. Heck, they even scatter in special needs students and give the teacher a special aide to assist with those students. It is best for the students to learn with a wide, diverse, group of individuals, don’t you know.

In my lily white school back in 1958, the teacher separated the quick learners from the slow learners. I was in the quick learn side. Some kids just have no desire to learn.

At Eastern Michigan University in a 90% (sometime 85%) Dem voting region, the supposedly all woke student body self-segregated all over the campus. One place was the large new student center area for eating lunch or having coffee. They always sat on racially divided sides. The university made an appeal but that was ignored. They put up signs about brotherhood-—so what.

Finally they had workers demolish some planters and dividers so they could rearrange the seating at angles to discourage separation. Like shopping malls where they deliberately don’t let you walk straight to the store you want but make you zig zag on ramps and levels to go by the supposed temptations of other places.

Sort of worked but students just ignored the other races next to them. Still talked the talk of the woke BS but wouldn’t walk the walk.

Well, why not just state you are assisting and preparing them for entrance into Stanford University. Stanford, while touting and celebrating ‘diversity’ has developed segregated housing: Ujamaa House is for African-American; Okada House is for Asians; Casa Zapata is for Chicanx and Latinx (99% of Spanish speakers do not like the new Latinx phraseology, and they do not speak Latin either).

The Stanford University website explains: “”Our ethnic theme communities have a rich and long history of engaging students at the highest levels of intellectual discovery and advancing diversity””

‘Advancing diversity’ by segregation.

Did they take the kids to cotton field and let them help pick cotton like their ancestors did?

that Principal Sharyn Briscoe, also a black woman, was segregating black children into certain classrooms.

They only want to subject the white kids to drag queen story hour.

The problem is obvious. They aren’t seperating based on ability but solely by race

I went to public school in Wilmington DE.
Far greater than 90% of blacks are useless trash in school.
The only thing they do is make it terrible.

The best day ever in high school was when they took all the blacks to see Malcolm X.
Just well behaved white people smiling everywhere.
No fights. No bottles of cocoa butter being tossed about for being “ashy”.
No “Let me get yo nickel” outside the lunch door.

They're the same pigmentation? From the same tribe??

The lamestream will never jump on this.

Now, if it had been a white doing this....look out.
