In Ukraine’s capital, Putin’s attacks don’t dim the resolve to fight Russia

KYIV, Ukraine — War and winter have brought new misery to Kyiv after a long summer lull. Russia’s missile campaign to destroy Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has revived fears that had abated after Ukrainian forces drove Russian troops away from the capital in the spring.

The first snowfall of the season has brought subzero temperatures to a city plunged into darkness and cold by the attacks.

But if Russian President Vladimir Putin’s goal is to demoralize the population to the point of accepting compromises with Russia, he isn’t succeeding. The danger and discomfort appear only to be hardening attitudes, deepening the resolve to keep fighting, according to interviews with Kyiv residents.

There were something like 1100 train locomotives in Ukraine last year. 900 of them electric. Dual use targets have always been legitimate. This was discussed in the Cold War. The Pentagon is within just a few miles of a major city, but a nuclear weapon strike on it that kills 100s of thousands in the city is a military strike.

This was true of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, too. The targets were military facilities. The crews would not have taken the mission if they had been told they are going to incinerate schools. The military facilities were hit and there was collateral damage. This is normal and accepted.

Shutting off train travel is a military strike. This is not rocket science. The populace can start walking west if they can’t find any other transport. They won’t be targetted.

Genocide has a particular definition. It requires killing people of 5 categories, one of which is national. It also requires killing them regardless of surrender or location. There is no evidence Ukraine refugees who fled to Russia are being killed, so this cannot be genocide. There are prisoner exchanges, and so those members of the national group are not being killed. Therefore there can be no application of the definition of genocide.

The US and the rest of NATO, whose combined economies are ten times the size of Russia, doesn’t have the industrial base to compete with Russia? Seriously?!?

“Yet another lie from you, Orthodox Christianity is not being banned in Ukrainian”

I know right..../s
This is all a lie too huh, warmonger and peddler?

“In the meantime the carnage of mangled Ukrainians goes on.

The video shows a graveyard near an Eastern town. Most Ukrainian ex-soldiers, however, sleep in mass graves on foreign soil.

Their bodies will be returned when Kiev agrees to peace talks.”

Right, the Russians are trying to take down the entire Ukrainian electrical grid just to halt a few hundred electric locomotives, not to freeze out the population. That’s totally believable. 🙄

Yes, the carnage is continuing because the warmongering fascist dictator sitting in the Kremlin wants it to continue.

You are a clown, Salo.

From a briefing by NATO spokesman Jamie Shea. Brussels, 25 May 1999:

https://www.nato.int/kosovo/press/p990525b.htm

“Q: If you say that the [Yugoslav] army has a lot of generators, then why are you depriving the country of 70% of not only electricity, but also water supply, because, according to you, [NATO] only strikes military targets.

A: Unfortunately, the command and control systems also depend on electricity. If Milosevic really wants his citizens to have water and electricity, all he has to do is accept the NATO terms and we will stop this campaign. Until he does, we will continue to attack targets that supply his army with electricity. If this has consequences for the population, these are his [Milosevic’s] problems. Water supply and electricity are being used against the people of Serbia, we have “cut off” them forever or for a long time for the sake of the lives of 1.6 million Kosovars who have been driven from their homes and whose lives have been seriously damaged. This difference will not appeal to everyone, but for me this difference is fundamental.”

Denialism is good medicine for you, Salohcin.

Certainly hope it helps you sleep better at night, for your sake.

Isn’t it cool how the United States can illegally occupy Syria, steal their oil and scream about Ukraine’s sovereignty, etc. at the same time?

LOL. It seems obvious now that there are broken and defeated among us who want the US ruled by the CCP and their Russian allies. Have pity on them.

Here’s some research on Putin’s view on the illegitimacy of the Ukrainian nation. Perhaps you should read it if you have the time.

The Ukraine Rah Rah brigade is working overtime now. I must admit that the Ukraine and their propaganda arm in the UK and USA have won this war six ways to Sunday. One Brave Ukraine soldier is worth ten poorly trained, fumbling, conscripts But is it true in this WW I bloodbath of artillery and trench warfare? The proof is in the pudding. We shall see when spring comes. I fear all of the Rah Rah talk is only there to get us to put America boys and girls into the action. How will the rah rah sound when the bodies start to roll in?

Moron Putinists are too stupid to understand that it is exactly the maximalist “Ukraine is a fake country” rhetoric that makes Ukrainians fight so hard. Before this war kicked off Ukrainians were speaking Russian in Kyiv by choice. That’s all gone now. Forever. Thankfully, bit by bit the corrupt and sclerotic Russian World shrinks.

So you agree with Putin that Ukraine is an artificial state and shouldn’t exist. And you expect the Ukrainians to agree with this? How can Putin have any good faith negotiations with Ukraine if this is his view?
