Oh it’s already happening and has for years, it became front and center in the John Boehner/Tea Party crushing days and has gotten worse as voting for the lesser of evils (GOPe vs. dems) has gotten markedly prevalent in recent years.
This is also why there is little to no enthusiasm for McCarthy going forward. We know what happened the last couple of times as the GOPe congressional pukes got turned out as fast as they came in.

A society can dig itself into a hole too deep to hop out of. I think we have passed the point where we can voluntarily go back to normal.
