At the company I work for they started making remote workers come back to HQ three days a week in the summer of 2021.

One guy told me, Id rather roll out of bed in my underwear and start working at home then drive here.

A four day work week is what most people do in five days.

They told us to stay home. They want to build some offices for management so we will lose cubicle space. Then they mentioned “Hybrid hoteling”.
I mentioned “retiring”.

I’m lucky to be 100% remote, but I do miss a lot of the aspects of working on site. I see the pros and cons, but the option to return to an office is actually perk.

This country is screwed. Get money for sitting at home, doing the laundry. No industrial output. Everyone is entitled to do nothing.

I am not joining that world.

Just become a teacher, that’s basically a 3 day work week when you count Summer’s off and holidays.

We had 4 day shifts back in 1995. The ONLY issue was the accounting for Holidays. Some employees got 8 hours for their holiday. Others got 10.

It was a quirky accounting/payroll thing.

The Hill is a progressive propaganda organ. I have to wonder if any of their report is true.

And as a kid I thought the future was going to be great seeing George Jetson only work until 3:00 pm every day!

“The trial instructed “employees to work 80% of their regularly scheduled hours in return for 100% of their pay and a pledge to deliver 100% of their standard output.””

Well, who on earth wouldn’t believe such a pledge?

I’ll go one better. I pledge to produce in three days what I did in five for the same pay.

I used to work a weekend special at Oschner Medical Center in New Orleans. 16 on 8 off 16 on paid for 40. I was young and stupid then.

It does not take a mathematician to see that employees were only working at 80% during the five day week.

How nice, a 20% pay raise for the same amount of work.

“part of a six-month pilot designed by the nonprofit 4 Day Week Global and professors at Boston College.”

So, a non-profit is advising companies on how to make a profit.

Who wouldn’t take advice from people with such relevant expertise?

I worked a four day, 40 hour week for years.

It was a significant improvement over a five day week.

The 1500 person workforce I was in, at Yuma Proving Ground, much preferred it.

Computerization and automation means less people are truly needed to do what needs to be done in our workplaces

I doubt this applies to manufacturing operations, more like the office jobs. As a matter of fact if most those office jobs people stayed away, the factories that make goods would experience much greater productivity.

After two and a half years teleworking, my observation is that the people who were useless at the office are now useless at home. People who worked 12 hours at the office (which had an 8 hour day) now work 12 hours at home (this is me).

But not having the commute and being comfortable in my quiet home is worth it. I am my most productive in the off hours when useless people aren't calling me, trying to get me to do their job. Wish they would just be fired. Also love having a healthy lunch which I am doing now!

“One less day of work, not a dollar less in pay – for an employee, what’s not to love?”

Just a thought but, a company might not love the significant decrease in overall productivity.

Got paid for same.
