The House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee gave outgoing Speaker Nancy Pelosi an arrogant new title and unanimously voted to anoint Pelosi as ‘Speaker Emerita.’
House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries said Pelosi is the “most consequential Speaker in American history” and that the honorific title “reflects Speaker Pelosi’s lifetime of service as a legendary legislator, notorious negotiator, and a fabulous facilitator.”
Dem Rep Eric Swalwell said: “It was an honor as Co-Chair of the Democratic Steering & Policy Committee to confer upon @SpeakerPelosi the honorific title of Speaker Emerita. She is the most consequential legislator Congress has ever known and we are lucky she will remain in our ranks.”
House Democrats will be the minority party in the House after January. They will vote Wednesday on a new leadership slate with Jeffries expected to be chosen as the new House leader for the Dems.

This fancy naming thing is sure to be popular. What do you suppose Hakeem will choose for himself? Speaker Africanus? Maximus? Tenebris or Stultus would be more appropriate.

This gives me an idea. Back in the 3rd grade I was elected Hall Monitor. But I lost re-election the next year.
I shall now refer to myself as a Hall Monitor Emeritus.

That’s bastardized Latin. Latin only has 3 genders: male, female, and neuter. Considering her power has been neutered, emeritum fits.
“Speaker Dementia” would also be fitting.

And these Washington politicians are the people to whom Americans entrust their own welfare? No wonder the nation is in such a mess!

Seems to me it should be Emeritx.
This was the Congress that voted for rules that everything would be non-gendered, so seems fitting.
