"But the promoters of the initiative didn’t mention that. The measure was sold as a “common sense” safety law. It requires a police permit before you can buy a firearm, and to get a permit you have to prove you know how to use a gun. What’s wrong with that? Well, the law also says that to get a permit to buy a gun, you have to prove completion of a firearms training course that is “offered by law enforcement, a community college, or a private or public institution or organization or firearms training school utilizing instructors certified by a law enforcement agency…”Local police and sheriffs do not “certify” instructors for the general public. Nor do they offer public firearms training. Linn-Benton Community College doesn’t offer such training either.
The 2nd amendment provides law abiding citizens a right not a privilege. The USSC should strike down any law that attempts to take away that right. Hopefully, Oregon's restrictive law will be struck down by the USSC.

Actually, it doesn’t provide the right. It explicitly prohibits the government (at all levels thanks to the 14th) from infringing on the existing natural right in any way. Full stop.

The 2nd amendment provides law abiding citizens a right not a privilege. I disagree. 2A "ACKNOWLEDGES AND GUARANTEES" our God given right. It does not "provide" the right to us. This is not semantics, nor is it a minor point.

Hopefully, Oregon's restrictive law will be struck down by the USSC. They will just ignore the court and pass bunch of other restrictions that the citizens can't afford to challenge. Notice how easy it is to get a gun and permit to carry in New York since the Supremes ruled they have to let you carry?
