Don’t ever fly in a modern aircraft if you believe that, eg
every Third landing of a British airways B777 is by computer.
I help certify those systems and they work, if you do it right.
And I fly the B777. You leave out everything that has to be done by the pilots to set it up for the auto land, none of which can be done remotely. The 777 auto lands great but it has to be set up perfectly, closely monitored, and you never take your hands off the controls during the maneuver. The “if you do it right” part is kinda critical because if you don’t do it right a bunch of people die. The first time a pilotless plane crashes into a neighborhood on final to LAX it’ll put an end to that idea for the next 50 years, just like the first self driving train that plows into a school bus full of children.
