And I fly the B777. You leave out everything that has to be done by the pilots to set it up for the auto land, none of which can be done remotely. The 777 auto lands great but it has to be set up perfectly, closely monitored, and you never take your hands off the controls during the maneuver. The “if you do it right” part is kinda critical because if you don’t do it right a bunch of people die. The first time a pilotless plane crashes into a neighborhood on final to LAX it’ll put an end to that idea for the next 50 years, just like the first self driving train that plows into a school bus full of children.
Yes it has a lot of prep work. but highly skilled people aren’t needed to do it.
I can do it and I’m not a pilot. They call it a check list.
Trains are on rails. they don’t stop on a “dime” or avoid problems not like ships, aircraft, or cars.
they go forward or backwards and that is it, unless a disaster strikes. Never met a man that stopped a de-railment.
