As former President Donald Trump pursues another bid for the White House, a new poll offers fresh evidence that Pennsylvania Republicans may be considering an alternative: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis leads Trump, 45% to 40%, in a hypothetical head-to-head 2024 primary election, according to a survey of Pennsylvania Republican voters.
Those figures include people who said they would “definitely” or “probably” support the candidates.
The survey was commissioned by Commonwealth Partners Chamber of Entrepreneurs, a Harrisburg-based group that promotes free markets and conservative policies.
“This poll shows what’s become abundantly clear in the past two years: It’s time to move on from Trump,” Matt Brouillette, CEO of Commonwealth Partners, said in a statement. “While his accomplishments on priorities like tax reductions and judicial nominations are notable, if Republicans want to achieve similar policy wins in the future, they must leave behind the Trump brand that’s delivering electoral defeat.”
The survey of 639 registered Republican voters in Pennsylvania had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
Twelve percent said they were undecided, and 4% preferred another candidate. Respondents were not asked about any other potential GOP candidates by name.
The poll, taken Nov. 19-21, comes as some in the party have blamed Trump for the GOP’s poor showing in this month’s midterm elections. The former president’s endorsed candidates lost several key races, including elections for governor and U.S. Senate in battleground Pennsylvania.
By contrast, DeSantis won reelection in Florida by 19 percentage points.
No satisfaction does not lead.
Nothing can surprise with PA illiterate voters. After all they voted for a brain dead asshole.
I know. Oz was off brand, and crazy Mastreano pulled the whole ticket down.
Polls are absolutely meaningless. The AZ “election” has taught us that, FFS!
Democrats wil no longer be required to campaign. They will win regardless. So elected posts become job vacancy to be filled and not elected positions.
Doesn’t really matter as long as Democrats here in PA can change the election rules at any time, and continue to stuff mail-in ballot boxes.
No Republican candidate has a chance in Hell (Harrisburg)
Who cares about Pa?
1. Pa will go Dem no matter what.
2. Pa jackasses elected the imbecile Festerman to the US Senate.
I can’t wait for Ron to use this one: “DeSantis: for a kinder, gentler MAGA.”
Don’t blame Trump or the rest of the conservatives on the ballots alone for this recent loss. We could run Jesus Christ and He’d lose, thanks to the Democrats and their New Way of Counting Votes™️. 🤬
“So the real question is, who will fill the ranks for Desantis? His choices or those who he’s told can be approved?”
He’ll get a few of his own picks and a bunch of swamp creatures just like all Republican Presidents since Nixon.
Also as his administration moves forward, his Florida loyalists will be besieged by the Washington DC scandal machine. Many of them will be forced out.
The DeSantis crowd on Free Republic have a lot of heart and are quite the little dreamers.
I find their hope and naivety very amusing.
I would expect this trend to continue as the Uniparty of McConnell, Ryan and Wall Street globalists media blitz those who will or want to believe the propaganda, and that seems to be a good number of FReepers.
Puck Fennsylvania!!!
Then how will things be different in 2024 with another Dem Governor (the enormously popular Mr. Shapiro)?
Polls and votes are meaningless. Ballots are all that matter,
that and the Government’s power to threaten, silence and marginalize those who question the way the ballots are processed.
Possibly. Only because Trump is bitter enough to run a third party ticket if he loses the Republican nomination.
100% agree
I’ve said the same thing since 2016.
Yeah. Well, PA just elected a brain-dead buffoon to the Senate, so this isn’t all that surprising.
Sorry but Desantis can’t win PA
He can’t get 2/3+ of I voters and/or peel off enough D’s to carry the state and that’s what you need to do so win statewide in PA as. Republican
Sadly that’s the math of this state
46% D
39% R
15% I
Don’t see Desantis pulling it off. As we just saw Democrats can run a mediocre to poor candidate and still win Pa….
PA is not Florida. There aren’t enough I’s.
Based on the math, Desantis would have to perform in PA like he did in Florida in 2022 or better to win PA… I don’t see him pulling that off in PA
