Chinese TV has been cutting close-up shots of mask-free World Cup soccer fans to avoid angry comparisons with the strict “zero-COVID” clampdowns behind historic protests at home, according to reports.
Earlier footage of soccer fans from around the world packing Qatar stadiums without face coverings drew outrage in the nation that remains alone in enforcing draconian lockdowns and forced testing for millions.
“Is this the same world as ours?” one Weibo user asked alongside footage, as a viral open letter to Beijing’s National Health Commission asked if China was “on the same planet” as Qatar.
Now, as that anger has spilled out into the biggest wave of protests in the 33 years since Tiananmen Square, state TV has been blocking shots of the fun-loving fans, according to the South China Morning Post.

The Chinese Hijab. Iranian female student on campus don’t allow pictures on social media because they don’t wear face coverings. Students from China on campus aren’t all masked in public but are careful to not be seen on social media without a mask.
.
Seeing people maskless in the outside world is a shock because they live in a country that constantly tells them it is protecting then with masks, daily, or twice daily mandatory testing and draconian lockdowns where they might:
a) starve to dearth
b) burn to death in a building fire
c) commit suicide
d) climb out of the building and get beaten then disappeared.
In most places today the masses are an expense. Why would anyone care to maintain an expense?
They’re as bad as ... CNN.
They’re not doing anything differently than what the government/mockingbird media did with the burying of reporting on the mask protests in Europe and Australia, or more recently, the Dutch farmer protests.
Because the masses are supplying 1.3% of Chinese revenue thru testing - the money currently comes out of taxes they pay - direct individual payments are in the works.
Its not like in the US - they get tested every day or some times twice - going to a public even? Get tested before entering.
There are videos showing thousands of people in Beijing waiting to be tested - all neatly lined up in rows of 4 for miles.
It’s not about any virus at this point. It’s about state control of the individual for (insert excuse here). It’s a conditioning operation and psychological exercise.
You have completely missed the point - the covid tests are a sliver lining for the CCP.
They already have them under control, they believe. This is now about money, money the failing Chinese economy and the CCP desperately needs.
The “conditioning operation and psychological exercise” was in the beginning - its no longer about that.
Seeing the mask free crowd helped instigate the anti-Chicom rebellion.
China media is controlled. Our deepstate and msm can only dream of having the level of control there is in China.
Chicom media has been telling their citizens that all the world is in huge Covid crisis, dying left and right and only Xi Jinping’s Zero Covid insane policies have saved China from Covid.
Then they saw reality slip through.
So one has to ask: why is it that China seems to have the worst COVID problem in the entire world, from day 1 until now?
They don’t.
The government is insane or using this as an excuse for total control.
It's the second one.
I believe so too.
There is an element of insanity in it, too.
Maybe some but for fascists it's always about power and control (and China is fascist, they do have "private" industry under state control so not strictly commie anymore).
Our own domestic fascists (the left) used COVID to seize a lot of power and only gave it up when it became a political problem for them to keep it when the people started getting ticked off and not obeying. Then they allowed us some semblance of normality but are always hinting that they might take back our freedom at any moment. China is facing the same scenario right now.
