If she was indeed just leaving work, then they should all park and walk in pairs and groups. I have lived in 4 cities. When getting used to the city, reading police blotter (crime reports), I am always amazed at the number of incidents from 1am to 3am. Single women walking ALONE. Insanity. If you have to park farther away from the venue (restaurant, club, whatever), when the evening is over, take a cab/Uber from the venue to your car. Have the cab wait until you get in your car and you can drive away. Life is far too short to become a Darwin Award winner. Your family and friends will scream to the heavens why you didn’t call them instead of walking alone.
FWIW- that headline (Theirs not yours) was misleading.

There was more than one carjacker, four of them, and even if she had two other people with her, they attack in groups, now. A woman in her 70s was attacked by multiple “teens” in broad daylight in New Orleans, and she ended up dying in the street since they pushed her out of the car, and drove off with her arm still being stuck and she bled to death. So really it doesn’t matter what time of day it is, anymore.
How about just getting rid of these parasites once and for all instead of tiptoeing around them?

There's many reasons for being out at 0200 in any city that aren't nefarious.
I've picked up my wife from her nursing job, attending to a critical newborn, my daughter assisting in defusing a potential suicide, my son in aiding a car accident victim. Or myself interdicting a major fentanyl interception.
Perhaps if you lived closer to the area you're opining on, your opinions would ring truer.

Trouble is sitting in your car is a crappy place to stay and shoot/defend yourself. The doors don’t stop anything and its cramped and your reaching/twisting in a seat.
If one is likely to be attacked by an armed gang, then one needs to be defended suitably.

Nobody can guarantee that they will stop the threat with just one round. The statistical minimum average, depending on where you look, is at least two rounds per disabled assailant and often more (there was one survey of police shootings that showed the average number of shots fired to incapacitation was four, for example). Five shots and four perps still leaves you at least three rounds short. Even with a .50/.500 pistol because you *cannot* guarantee a hit with each shot, especially given the long recovery time between shots in the higher calibers.
