Stanford goalie Katie Meyer was facing disciplinary action before she tragically took her own life in February, according to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by her parents against the university.
Meyer was said to be riding her bike in the summer when she apparently spilled coffee on a Stanford football player, who allegedly sexually assaulted a female soccer player — a minor at the time — according to the lawsuit, which was obtained by USA Today Sports. Meyer, who served as the captain of the Stanford women’s soccer team, was sent a notice regarding imminent disciplinary action over the incident, which took place in August, on the evening of her death, per the suit.
“Stanford’s after-hours disciplinary charge, and the reckless nature and manner of submission to Katie, caused Katie to suffer an acute stress reaction that impulsively led to her suicide,” the complaint read.

Maybe she thought she would be thrown out of university and saw her entire career go down the drain. A bit dramatic, I know, but people have been known to commit suicide when they lose their careers.
Thrown out of a university for spilling coffee?
“... spilling coffee on someone doesn’t seem like the crime of the century.”
In this day and age, that might depend on the race of the football player. Which hasn’t been disclosed. But what if she was accused of disrespecting or mistreating a black athlete? In today’s woke university mindset, could this have been a factor? Just asking...
Meyer’s story is somewhat ambiguous. The lawsuit mentioning that the football player had been accused of sexually assaulting would seem to imply that she dumped the coffee on the guy as a sort of retaliation. Yet a different report mentioned that she had told the university that the coffee spill was an accident due to clumsiness. Guessing that the university didn’t buy that story.
In any case, it’s very sad that this young woman ended her life. Such a stupid, irrational waste. Even if Stanford kicked her off the soccer team and expelled her, so what? I get that from her perspective the soccer team and Stanford are everything. But to the rest of the world, they’re nothing. Nearly the entire human race gets by just fine without being on the Stanford soccer team or having a degree from Stanford.
Do you think the left that runs the educational institutions wouldn’t throw you out if you were a conservative and spilled coffee on somebody?
The first thing I thought of. If the racial background of the guy is not mentioned, it might mean something.
Don’t know if this is related, but is interesting:
“A Stanford Football Player Accused of Sexual Assault Remains on the Team”

Not a particularly well-written article.
Did she ride her bike up to someone she had been told had done a minor wrong and toss some hot coffee at him?
If so, did she cause real harm? Was she expelled from the University for it, with notification via email after she had panicked and missed her opportunity to defend her actions?
Here is more:
The threat from the university was apparently a 3-month hold on her receiving her diploma. Apparently the football player had been accused of trying to kiss a girl without receiving permission first. (University had investigated and said hadn’t found evidence that he had committed an actionable violation.)
Still no report of the coffee having caused harm.
Female masculinism kills, and often ruins lives. A woman does not ever toss coffee on a man. Most men can permanently disfigure or kill most any woman with just their bare hands, in one second of anger. A woman writing checks her ass can't cash has gone insane. Bring back lady training.
Zoomers are truly the Snowflake Generation.
A disciplinary notice and causes "an acute stress reaction" leading to suicide? So no school or employer must ever send a disciplinary notice to any student or employee?
Life is full of stress, on a daily basis. Which all too many Zoomers just can't handle.
Deliberate ambiguity.
Author is obviously carefully adhering to a narrative.
How coincidental it is that the person on whom the coffee was supposedly accidentally spilled is now dealing with an accusation of sexual assault. From a now dead accuser, no less. She sure picked the right person on whom to accidentally spill coffee. Not a sympathetic victim in the least!
I understand the parents grief over the death of their daughter. But suing the University is not going to bring her back. The University did not kill her and this is a frivolous lawsuit.
Her pic looked like she was capable of holding her own with a man.
Why would someone be drinking coffee during a summer bike ride?
So, maybe she deliberately doused the football player with hot coffee?
And, skin color factored into it?
Suicide in healthy people under age 25 is very often impulsive, but still quite rare - just 1 in 10,000 by most estimates.
Also important to remember that late teens and early twenties is the prime age for the onset of schizophrenia.
Mental illness and drug or alcohol addiction are the prime factors in suicide by healthy people.
How do you spill coffee on someone else while you are riding your bike?
“Stanford’s Office of Community Standards received a complaint regarding alleged behavior by Katie that resulted in physical injury,’’
In my opinion, the most likely scenario is that she rode her bike by a young man she didn’t like and intentionally dumped hot coffee on him. It’s not insane that the university would discipline her for conduct like that (technically assault and battery of another student). But as I said above, I wonder if there’s a racial component to this story that’s not being mentioned.
