Democrat Mary Peltola defeats Sarah Palin in race for Alaska's at-large House seat

Democrat Mary Peltola has won the race for Alaska’s at-large congressional seat, NBC News projected Wednesday, defeating former governor and GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

While the election was held earlier this month, the race was not called for weeks because of Alaska’s new ranked-choice voting system where voters rank the candidates in order of preference.

After the first round of voting, Peltola led Palin by more than 20 percentage points, with Republican Nick Begich, a scion of one of Alaska’s most well-known political families, in third. But because Peltola failed to win more than 50 percent, the voting went to a second round with Begich eliminated and his votes redistributed to those voters’ second choice.

The three-way race was a rematch of a special election held earlier this year. Peltola made history in August, becoming the first Native Alaskan seated in Congress after she won the special election to replace longtime GOP Rep. Don Young, who died in March at the age of 88.

How do you hold so much stupidity in such a small head?

Trump's endorsements are better than anyone else’s, proven. It's shocking how good they are - over 90%.

Your endorsements simply allow turds to fall into the toilet bowl.

Seeing ass about 95% of incumbents when reelection, 93% is nothing to brag about. Look at the Challenger’s. Trump did terrible.

Many on here seem to be ignoring that number of liberals that have move up there. Pouring into anchorage and other places.

The ones that move to anchorage have all the big city amenities. The others that move into the small towns watch too many shows about life in Alaska

Either way, just like, it’s just like so many other states….Az, Tx, Ga…that are seeing massive liberal migration into them and folks think the states will stay the same and the new residents will adopt to their new homes.

Kind of like that dunbass Rick Perry who said everyone would become Texans.

>When Alaskans are cut off from their own oil supply

It might not come from that. But it might come when green Joe limits AK oil production enough that the state no longer has a surplus to return to its voters. When Alaskans stop getting free money from the state they might wake up.

Actually, this was won when a well known democrat, Nick Begich, from a powerful Democrat family, reregistered as a Republican and ran to prevent a Republican conservative from winning.

Nick Begich has always been a Republican and was in this race long, long before Sarah Palin ever even talked about it and in fact was going to run against the incumbent Don Young as a conservative challenger to his right. This irrefutable reality is far different than the complete fiction you just posted.

Ranked choice is designed to put the democrat choice over the top.

Sarah Palin lost? ....Maybe she did? Maybe she didn’t.

Elections in the U.S. are a mess.

Palin is a hugely polarizing person and lots of Alaska Republicans would prefer a Democrat in Congress to her. That’s Palin’s fault, not RCV’s.

Murkowski literally didn’t need RCV to prevail against a conservative challenger. She did it in 2010 as a write in.

The challengers he picked, particularly in the Senate, almost all lost.

You are counting endorsements of candidates who would have easily do about 80% of Trump’s endorsement are meaningless. The endorsements that do matter are for candidates running in purple states or districts.

Maybe I’ll look at how well Trump endorsed candidates did in such races and come up with an accurate rate. I’d include Alaska as because of their ranked choice voting method. A state where Trump’s candidates for Senate and the House lost .

Counting all Trump endorsements is a method of putting lipstick on a pig of a midterm election. There’s no way to sugarcoat this. The election was a disappointment, to put it mildly, for Republicans.

Joseph Stalin would have approved of ranked choice voting.

>Palin is too polarizing to win a ranked choice vote, as simple as that. The Democrat candidates was also clever and kept on most of Don Young’s old congressional office staff to emphasize she’s “bi-partisan” I wonder if she will fire them all now that she was re-elected (okay, is that cynical of me to think that?)

Very prescient. She fired them all after the election...
