Chesapeake police on Wednesday identified the six people killed Tuesday night by a Walmart employee who opened fire in the store.
The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. Tuesday when an overnight team manager at the Walmart on Sam’s Circle began shooting employees in the store’s break room.
The dead were identified as Tyneka Johnson, 22, of Portsmouth; and, from Chesapeake, Randall Blevins, 70; Lorenzo Gamble, 43; Brian Pendleton, 38; Kellie Pyle, 52; and a 16-year-old boy. The boy’s identity is being withheld because he was a minor, said Leo Kosinski, a police spokesperson, in a statement Wednesday.
The identities of the injured also have not been released. Three people were shot and remained hospitalized Wednesday, said Detective Dave Weir. Two of those were critically injured, and one was in good condition. Four other people sustained injuries that were not related to gunfire and have all been released from hospitals.
It’s not clear how many victims were employees and whether any were shoppers. At least 50 people were believed to be in the store at the time.
“The City of Chesapeake has always been known as the ‘City That Cares’ and now, more than ever, we know our City will show up and care for those who need it most,” Kosinski said.

Let me guess: He felt “disrespected” by his elders and couldn’t get to first base with the young lady.
Photos of Andre Bing, the suspect, show him to be a person of color and they say “motive is unknown.”
Maybe systemic racism and the hopeless quest for self respect among racists caused him to lash out.
Killer was “laughing” as she shot victims....
From NY Post about one woman who inexplicably was spared death:
A Walmart employee who miraculously survived the bloodshed that left six dead said gunman Andre Bing inexplicably decided to spare her — telling her to “go home” after he slaughtered her colleagues.
Jessie Wilczewski said it was only her fifth day on the job when Bing, 31, opened fire on her and her coworkers as they sat in a break room and prepared for their shift.
“It didn’t even look real until you could feel when the gun goes off — pow, pow, pow — you can feel it,” Wilczewski told local news outlet WAVY.
“I couldn’t hear it at first because I guess it was so loud, I could feel it.”
Wilczewski said Bing was firing shots from left to right while laughing and believes the massacre was planned – and that he targeted certain Walmart managers.
Wow. The killer went full diversity.
Thanks for finding something positive in this story. As they say "when life hands you lemons, make lemonade!"
We have a diverse group of victims here: old, young, age 16 to 70. Black and white. Men and women. This is a chance to reflect on how far society has come. If we keep working on pronouns and such, who can say what great things are in store!
.
Not a single person in the Media - or the Democrat party criticized Strzok - who said Walmart was smelly Trump people and it made his skin crawl to be around them.
So, when the Left, as they always do, try to make this about a Political motive, every Elected Republican should run to a camera - and remind them how the Democrats (in official hearings, too) loved up on Strzok and did not take issue with his characterization of Walmart people.
Fight, or you’ve already lost.
.
What’s up with that? That is strange.
Since when did that ever stop them from reporting the name and age of a child killed before?
Usually the only time they won’t release the name is when the perp, not the victim, is a juvenile.
Remember. It’s not a coincidence that mass killings are skyrocketing since The Pedophile and his Marxist RAT’s rose to powah. These are coordinated and orchestrated by the gun confiscation gestapo.
Yes they should. Republicans never fight. I know they get bashed in the media all the time but if they get in front of a camera and state True facts instead of BS crap that they give, they‘d be better off and so would we.
Lol. So true.
