After forcing Russian troops to retreat from the city of Kherson two weeks ago, Ukrainian special forces are now battling the Russians on the islands and in marshes to the southwest, trying to push them out of a strategically vital peninsula at the mouth of the Dnipro River where it meets the Black Sea.
The fighting is focused on the Kinburn Spit, on the east bank of the Dnipro River, the Ukrainian authorities said on Tuesday. For tourists who have visited the sliver of land, the spit is a place of rare natural beauty, but it could also prove pivotal to the next phase of the country’s war against Moscow.
Russia took control of the peninsula in June in one of its last notable advances in the south before it was forced onto the defensive by a sustained Ukrainian counteroffensive. Two weeks ago, the Kremlin ordered a retreat from the city of Kherson, on the west bank of the Dnipro, but military experts said it would fight tenaciously to keep control of Kinburn.
Control of the peninsula allows Russia to project force deeper into the Black Sea, guard routes to the ports in Mykolaiv and Kherson and protect its forces in Crimea, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014. If Ukraine were to take Kinburn, it would put key Russian supply lines running north out of Crimea in easy range of Ukrainian weapon systems.

Such a stooge. Totally debunked. The media clown car pulls up and you and your news pop out.
Not a thing in the world for the poor Uke globalist saps to worry about. Starting winter, overextended after taking the Russian bait, the entire country going darker and colder with each round of missiles. Those dense bastards in DC even realize and are starting to hang your hero Zelly out to dry. The Ukes get bled out of the war this winter. I’ve heard idiots around compare Zelly to Churchill. Maybe he can do what Napoleon and Hitler couldn’t, survive the Russian winter battlefield.
Ukraine, btw, was able to cancel its October callup because of a surfeit of volunteers. How is that mobilization looking for Mordor on the Moskva?
“Not rushed off to be killed wearing the uniforms of previously wounded or killed soldiers.”
Right. I suppose you believed that when you read it in a headline too, yeah?
“UK giving raw #Ukraine recruits 6 months training in just 5 weeks, in other words, sending them to defeat and death.
7,000 trained since June, or about as many Ukrainian soldiers who perish in a single month...”

What you Putinistas smoking cause it must some really good stuff.
Uh, it's a Ukrainian winter battlefield, in their own country, and I'm pretty sure the Ukrainians know how to fight in winter in their native environment, just like the Finns in 1940.
And how can they be overextended when they have interior lines inside THEIR OWN COUNTRY?
And oh yeah, they're the defenders, unlike Napoleon, Hitler, and Putin.
5 weeks by a professional military is an order of magnitude better than what the Russians are getting.
Reality check yourself if you dare....
Having watched this full blown interview with US ex-soldier and mercenary who served with the Azov in Ukraine for a brief time, I would highly encourage everyone with a vested interested in this Ukraine-Russian war/conflict....no matter which side one has sided with - to watch and listen carefully to what he is saying, indicating, and shows emotionally. Dude is unfortunately but definitely suffering from PTSD from his encounter(s) but the interview is an eye-opener and reality check for Ukie advocates.
Well worth the 3 hours plus to watch/listen to.

LOL, what are the Ukrainians pushing back the Russians with, cardboard cutouts? The figure of 7,000 is ludicrous on its face, whereas the story of the reuse of uniforms by the Russians fits the consistent pattern of corruption, shortages and incompetence we've seen since the beginning of the war.
Nothing in the past twenty odd years of fighting by the US military would have prepared any US veteran for the intensity of ground combat in some parts of Ukraine, especially the use of artillery. Plus support for front line units including medevac, food, fuel, ammunition, air support and the other combined arms capability of the US military are all missing.
It only matters that the Ukes are better at it than the Russians. My great-grandfather spent 4 years in WWI as a French soldier. Human beings, both soldiers and civilians, can endure much more in war than anyone would have thought possible beforehand, especially when they are fighting for their own land.
No you have not.
Again, be an actual man or woman and watch/listen to it.
But as par, you won’t cause it will shatter all your preconceived notions....
"It's a mess! Casualties are horrible! Almost my whole unit was wiped out."
Why is anyone surprised by this? It happens all the time in large scale fighting. It happens to some units even when your side wins the battle.
Again, I have watched probably more of these type interviews than you have over the course of many months.
Every story and interview is different because each one has a different story to tell, a different perspective etc.
To simply dismiss them and/or lump them into a category of whatever!, you are showing nothing more than disrespect and disregard for actual on the ground happenings, etc., no matter which side they participated on.
Again, EACH of them have a different story, a different take, etc.
just like the Finns in 1940.
Karalia which was part of Finland and was lost to Russia in the Winter war of 1939-1940 Included was Finland second largest city of Viipuri
The area was ethnic cleansed and the Finns moved out or where forcibly removed
Now Karalia is objecting to Putin mobilization orders and refusing to send more men
I have no illusions about Ukrainian forces capabilities compared to professional Western militaries. They started the war with only a small semi-professional army and the rest were militias in the traditional sense: barely trained, weakly armed and missing almost any formal logistics support. This explains why the Russians were able to advance so quickly but wound up having to retreat as their own logistics became impossible as supply lines were attacked and a shortage of replacement equipment, repair and fuel took their toll. Ukrainian forces were also more agile, as the top-down Russian command structure limited the Russian's ability to react.
Ukrainian forces have improved considerably, even compared to last summer during the Russian Donetsk offensive. They have acquired some mobility and combined arms ability using their artillery. Better in fact than what the Russians often seem capable of. More and better Western weaponry and training have also improved their capability quite a lot.
It's still a slog, particularly in Donbas where both sides have built extensively fortified lines and have to face each other's artillery. Will the Ukrainian's be able to dislodge the Russians from the rest of Ukraine? That seems unlikely, although they will advance where they can. Right now it seems they are aiming for further advances towards Crimea and will strive to bring artillery within range of targets in Crimea. They have gotten very good at nailing Russian logistics and transport in the rear. Maybe the goal is to threaten Crimea to force negotiations about leaving the rest of Ukraine. The Russian infrastructure campaign will probably not work, as it did not in Germany and Japan in WWII.
