The United States Senate voted Wednesday to advance the so-called Respect for Marriage Act.
HR 8404, which passed the House of Representatives in July, “provides statutory authority for same-sex and interracial marriages,” repealing provisions that define marriage as between a man and a woman.
The legislation also “repeals and replaces provisions that do not require states to recognize same-sex marriages from other states with provisions that prohibit the denial of full faith and credit or any right or claim relating to out-of-state marriages on the basis of sex, race, ethnicity, or national origin,” allows “the Department of Justice to bring a civil action,” and “establishes a private right of action for violations.”
Democratic advocates say the legislation promotes equality, but religious leaders strongly warned that it explicitly targets people of faith.
“Make no mistake,” Alliance Defending Freedom President Kristen Waggoner warned, “this bill will be used by officials and activists to punish and ruin those who do not share the government’s view on marriage.”
On Wednesday, HR 8404 received 62 “aye” votes and 37 “no” votes.
Twelve Republicans voted for advancing the legislation: Sens. Roy Blunt of Missouri, Richard Burr of North Carolina, Shelley Capito of West Virginia, Susan Collins of Maine, Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, Rob Portman of Ohio, Mitt Romney of Utah, Dan Sullivan of Alaska, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Joni Ernst of Iowa, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Todd Young of Indiana.
Most of these lawmakers did not respond to requests for comment from The Daily Signal

The GOP follows its donors, not its voters
I’m sure Mitch gave the signal for these 12 senators to provide the filibuster-breaking votes. That allowed the bill to pass while providing cover for the rest of the GOP senators. The rest of the caucus could vote the “traditional conservative” line, against the bill, and know their votes would be meaningless
Something like this stunt is being cooked up now on illegal immigration
The GOP establishment hates its base of voters. Mitch McConnell hates us with a passion
Absolutely vile creatures.
Its always the same collection of RINOs. Or GOPe. Or Communist Lites.
Divorce attorneys supplemental revenue bill.
Closet DemocRATS
They cleverly linked gay-marriage with inter-racial marriage, even though NO ONE is talking or legislating about the latter, nor has for many decades.
Against gay-marriage? You’re a RACIST, says our MSM propaganda media!
My daughter is an attorney. She works for a firm of six attorneys. They handle land use mostly, but stories around the table when we get to see her tell of particularly nasty and ugly divorces among the gay community. They sometimes violently feel that the rules of marriage should only apply to some requirements of marriage but not others.
It’s about attacking Christianity and sanity.
Typical. Leftists apply the name to something that is the complete antithesis of what it really is.
They have been doing this since the 1930’s. And they get away with it, because, hey...who would be against a “Respect for Marriage Act”.
Right?
an individual shall be considered married if that individual’s marriage is valid in the State where the marriage was entered into or, in the case of a marriage entered into outside any State, if the marriage is valid in the place where entered into and the marriage could have been entered into in a State.
So whatever the most radical definition the craziest state comes up with will apply to all 50 states.
This is why we need a new Party. We’ll never get rid of these guys or people just like them.
Yet another sign of the end times.
This means immigrant Muslims with four wives will be legal .
It's *ALWAYS* been about attacking the church, Christianity and people of faith.
Anyone who didn't see this coming all the way back in the early 90's (or before..) when the homosexuals started clamoring for "gay marriage" was blind. I suspect many eyes have finally opened. Probably too late.
“ Its always the same collection of RINOs. ”
They have Mitch’s permission and they represent the real views of most of their colleagues. I shouldn’t say “views”, because this is business. They’re voting as their billionaire donors have instructed. Mitch is doing the donors’ bidiingvby allowing 12 GOP senators to break the filibuster. Don’t buy the hoax that these guys are renegade “RINOs”. They’re the GOP party in the Senate and they’re accomplishing what the GOP caucus wants accomplished, in obedience to the donors
The donors hate the base. The donors’ employees -aka GOP senators - also hate the base

“ Joni Ernst seeking the approval of the buggerers and pederasts who run the Des Moines Register”
No, she’s seeking the approval of the billionaire donors who own the Republican Party.

The usual suspects plus those I never heard of.
Joni Ernst the one surprise.
It is a confusing read (probably intentionally), but for the marriage to be valid, it has to be valid in the State you arrive in. So a polygamous marriage wouldn’t be valid unless it was already legal in the State.
Isn’t it something? The red wave never happened, and now its looking like we won nothing at all. The agenda moves along apace.
