President Biden on Monday approved an emergency declaration for New York and ordered federal assistance to help respond to the severe winter storm in the western part of the state.
His action authorizes the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to coordinate all disaster relief efforts to supplement state and local response efforts in place since the snowstorm hit over the weekend.
The federal government can now coordinate disaster relief in 11 New York counties, including Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara.

It’s a snow storm...You don’t get Federal Money...It’s winter..it happens...they had/have everything they need.
I remember storms like this when I was a kid many, many moons ago. In those days, the government didn’t tell people to “hunker down and hide somewhere and whatever you do, don’t shovel snow. You’ll have a heart attack.”
I’m sick of everything is an emergency. No imaginary crisis will go to waste. It this case, it’s just a snowstorm in a place that is used to snow. It should only take an extra couple days to dig out.
All it will do is pay for local sheriff, emergency service, and plow operator staff, if that. Any damage was to private property and was limited. The weather is already forecast in the mid-40’s for this week. So the snow will all melt.
It will probably just be used to pad budgets of other programs in Albany.
How crazy. An emergency every time it snows now. Lake effect snow at that.

I grew up in Orchard Park. There has never been a storm like this. It was record breaking. 80” of snow in three days. Over 6’ in 48 hours.
Even the Blizzard of 1977 did not bring in as much snow. It was only about 3’, but there were 75 mph winds.
My school was closed for a week.
13 people have died from this storm. They predicted this storm 5 days in advance. They shut down all the interstates. They banned all travel.
Minorities and bipocs for sure since climate change always targets them. 🤔😵🐎💩
This storm was not just a snow storm. A plow driver died trying to clear snow because it was so deep it flipped his plow. People are having heart attacks trying to dig out. 6 foot of snow is not just a snow storm.
The people who are not self-sufficent and are thus dependent on others for their welfare will always be the "hardest hit" in any situation.
I live here now, and we have had worse snow storms, 2014 comes immediately to mind when I had 7' at my house. This last storm I got just short of 5'. I live right near Transit and the 400. The Oct 2006 was only 2' but did far more damage. Some areas were without power for well over a week, lots of flooded basements.
Most of the snow from this storm will likely be melted by the end of this week.
Nothing new, about 100 people die a year in the US as a result of shoveling snow.
6 feet of snow is not a normal snow event.
i’m 78...it’s just a snow storm...there have been many of the same naure and depth. heart attacks from shoveling happen with 12 inches...sorry about the driver...he flipped it...not the snow...
It's the power outages that really effect people.
