Georgia Democrats Cry ‘Voter Suppression’ Over A Law That Will Restrict Ballot Harvesting Plans
The Federalist ^ | NOVEMBER 18, 2022 | VICTORIA MARSHALL

As Georgia gears up for a runoff between Democrat Sen. Raphael Warnock and his Republican challenger Herschel Walker, Democrats in the state are once again crying wolf — aka, voter suppression — over a state law that prohibits early voting on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The Democratic Party of Georgia — along with Warnock’s campaign and prominent Democratic lawyer Marc Elias — have filed a lawsuit seeking to prevent the Peach State from banning early voting on Saturday, Nov. 26, two days after Thanksgiving. But Georgia law clearly states that if the second Saturday before the election follows a Thursday or Friday public holiday, early voting should not happen on that Saturday. The Georgia runoff will be held on Dec. 6.

While there is still plenty of time for voters to cast their ballots before the runoff, Democrats are still trying to fuel the voter suppression myth in a state that has seen record-breaking voter turnout — particularly among minority voters — after Georgia strengthened its voter laws last year.

Democrats argue that the law the state relies on to bar early voting on Nov. 26 does not include the word “runoff,” so voters should not be prevented from voting early on that Saturday. The first line of the section in question, however — section (d)(1)(B) of Georgia Code § 21-2-385 — refers to “each primary, election, or runoff” and mentions a “runoff” two additional times.

The GOP should be doing everything they can to get Hershel Walker elected, but since they are actually the Uniparty they want him to lose.

Millions of Americans have frozen, starved, marched on bloody feet, and died for your right to vote. Unless you are invalid, get your @ss up on Election Day and stand in line to vote. It’s not a big ask.

Judges gave slaveowners what they wanted, too. That got fixed. With bayonet and ball.

Black Friday and Black Saturday will be living up to its name this coming weekend. There will be no voting because it coincides with National Brawl at Walmart Weekend. The doors for the slugfest open at 6:00 AM Friday, and lasts until all merchandise is smashed, ripped, or otherwise destroyed. "It be a thang you wouldn't understand … "

Any lawyer that makes a claim like this before a court of law, should be sanctioned the maximum monetary sanction available, charged and Jailed with Contempt, referred for permanent disbarment for “abuse of process”

ALL ballot harvesting everywhere should be outlawed.

Ballot harvesting is pretty much dead in GA. The dispute about allowing early voting the weekend after Thanksgiving is about allowing early in-person voting on Sat and Sun after Thanksgiving, not about mail-in ballots.

GA restricted drop box hours to 7AM-7PM.
GA restricted drop boxes to public buildings, they’re not allowed on street corners or sidewalks.
There is a single drop box location in downtown ATL, in a Rec Center.

Mail-in ballots are a lot harder to get, which is why Dem leaders have gone back to trying to increase turnout for in-person voting.

In ‘Rat nest Fulton County, there are 750,000 registered voters, and the figures I saw said only 23,000 mail-in ballots were received in the November 8 election. If you take into account handicapped and the elderly, that’s a very small number.

Saw Kemp ad for Walker during Thanksgiving football. Warnock allies have carpet bombed social media, TV and billboards for the run off. They have a big mail campaign too. Dunno what other Republicans are doing outside a few ads from McConnell’s PAC.

I get what the law says but I also know anyone who is gone next week between Monday and Friday can’t vote early and will have to be in line Election Day and no one can predict how long they will have to wait. I’m inconvenienced by the timeline but I’ll still vote. I’m not a fan of these run offs for general elections but if Walker manages to win I might be grateful.
