Texas Governor Greg Abbott is deploying National Guard troops in M113 armored personnel carrier to various positions along the border after earlier threatening to use gunboats in an attempt to quell the influx of migrants at the border.
The news comes after Abbott invoked a Constitutional clause on Wednesday warning President Joe Biden that the Lone Star state would go rogue to defend itself from what he calls a migrant 'invasion' at the southern border.
Texas Military Department officials ordered the 10 armored personnel carriers on Thursday and announced around 50 soldiers would be trained to operate them.
Armored personnel carriers are large, heavily armored vehicles that move on tracks like tanks but are designed to carry troops into battle alongside tanks.
Affectionately known as the 'battle taxi' by troops in the Army, the M113 is bulletproof and can withstand small explosions - the US recently sent 200 to Ukraine for the country's fight against Russia.

We called the M114 the “113 and a half” in the 70’s.
Yep the illegal aliens will just surrender to the first APC they run across.
What Abbott is saying is that his state personnel will drive them to the nearest Port of Entry bridge and send them back to Mexico without processing them.
This is very problematic from a legal perspective and I am not sure that Texas has the legal authority to it. This clearly falls under the administrative law aspects of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Then there's the problem with Mexico. The majority of illegals currently crossing are not from Mexico and Mexico has no legal obligation to take them back.
Its going to be a legal s***show. But it will be fun to watch.
secede I believe you mean. I want him to succeed also
That ain’t no damn tank...lol..
Some countries around the world still use M60s.
Some countries around the world still use M60s.
I had an uncle by marriage who came back from WWII duty as an MP and became a Texas Ranger down on the border. He told me that they used to shoot rounds close to “wets” crossing the river as warning shots to turn them back. Sometimes they might have made a bad shot, but he didn’t say anything about that. The point is that back in the day there was something like physical threats that kept the flow of illegal migration down. Just the way things were back in the day.
This current move is NOT going to do anything to stem the flow because every single one of those illegal migrants knows that in the current cultural situation no one is going to shoot. I suspect the Governor, despite his good intentions, is going to get a ration of s-— from all the press and is going to become a laughing stock when some girl comes up to an APC and puts a flower in the gun barrel of a National Guardsman.

M113s are still in use??
Goodness.
I thought they were obsolete Vietnam-era jalopies when my unit, the 1/4 Infantry at Hohenfels, was using them as OPFOR vehicles against visiting US/NATO troops in Bradleys. 1992-95.
Sacre vache...
They're either terrified of being politically incorrect or simply stupid. And that's all members of all branches of govt.
M-113s are not tanks, and unless they have been functionally rebuilt are not bullet-proof - especially with .308 or larger rounds.
Haven’t heard much about US response to the fire fight off Porto Rico
where they Cartel shot up our guys.
Better late than never.
TANKS in caps! wow!
Slightly different, state and locals are not required under the INA to assist the feds in removing illegals. Its just what any sane administration would do. The feds could easily restrict federal funding such state and locals but they wont.
M113 APC
"National Guard troops in M113 armored personnel carrier"
Mount Vulcans on those APCs. Had Abbott done this a year ago, he’d be in the lead for 2024. His problem is he’s too slow on the draw.
