At this point any satellite image of anyplace in the world can easily be purchased online. It’s silly to think of these images as a ‘secret’. It’s not 1965 anymore.

It's merely a matter of resolution and timing. If I were in Iran's intel service I would would want to get that image to analyze the shadows to see when it was taken and which satellite took it. Releasing the photo probably wasn't a good idea.

But then did anyone gripe about Kennedy releasing U-2 photos of Russian missile sites in Cuba?

The military photos are higher resolution. It is not what is shown here but how good/bad our technology is.
