Marjorie Taylor Greene: Holman Rule Will Defund Garland's Special Counsel
Newsweek ^ | Nov 18 2022 | Aila Slisco

GOP Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia says that the newly announced special counsel investigations of former President Donald Trump will be "defunded" after Republicans seize control of the House.

Attorney General Merrick Garland on Friday appointed veteran federal prosecutor Jack Smith as special counsel to spearhead criminal investigations of Trump, regarding the classified documents found in his Mar-a-Lago home and his activities surrounding the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Greene predicted that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy will reinstate a little-known House rule after being voted in as speaker in January, with Republicans then moving to force the investigations to a grinding halt due to lack of funds.

"Holman Rule. Look it up!" Greene tweeted on Friday. "@GOPLeader is going to put it in place. That means no money for Garland's politically weaponized Special Counsel. Don't promise too many jobs! Whoops defunded."

Would the GOP House really have the guts to fight Biden/Garlands political use of justice department and Indep counsel?

I understand she’s under consideration by Trump as a running mate...good idea or not remains to be seen. Female and as gutsy as he is, so perhaps! We don’t see any male House Reps suggesting such a thing...Sounds like a great idea to me to cut off funding such a boondoggle - AND MANY MORE!

Sure, I believe McCarthy will stand up to the Rats in the Senate and White Hut to defund this. And when it fails in conference with the Senate, McCarthy will let the government shut down until he gets this defunded. Yup, I believe McCarthy will not cave. Guaranteed. No doubt. 100%.

Do I really have to put the /s on this?

I would support a special council if they took care of the backlog of charges first against Bill and Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Al Gore,...

I think Reps Comer (Kentucky) & Andy Biggs (AZ) were the first to suggest it.

Look it up!

Ok, I will...

https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/virginia-politics/house-republicans-revive-obscure-rule-that-could-allow-them-to-slash-the-pay-of-individual-federal-workers-to-1/2017/01/04/4e80c990-d2b2-11e6-945a-76f69a399dd5_story.html

The republicans did this at the beginning of the Trump administration and ... nothing (notably one of the people to try was a representative DeSantis from Florida). A scant few proposals were made and none were ever passed. The Holman rule was also passed well before civil service protections were passed and the bureacracy takes care of itself. Without backbone in leadership, nothing goes anywhere and the machine keeps moving forward.

She would not help as VP. She’s been tarred for too long as a right-wing wacko. Two supposed wackos on one ticket would not do well.

If this J6 sham investigation is allowed to continue to a completion, anyone wanna bet Ray Epps name will never be mentioned in the final outcome nor will Pelosi’s role and refusal to provide security.

“Would the GOP House really have the guts to fight Biden/Garlands political use of justice department and Indep counsel?”

No. Especially since a good number of them support what Biden is doing.

“after Republicans seize control of the House”

I guess Newsweek is an election denier. Apparently Newsweek believes the 2022 election was fraudulent because, rather than the Republicans legitimately “take control” of the HoR, they apparently are going to “seize control of the House.”

Looks like democracy was on the ballot after all . . .

Because of the warning. The money for the operation is most likely being pre-loaded as we speak. Not that the there is a lack of money around that DOJ can tap into.

No. Anyone expecting the new GOP majority to be aggressive on anything will be sadly disappointed. Some things never change.
