Former President Donald Trump took aim at the entrenched Washington swamp by promoting three major reforms while kicking off his 2024 campaign for the White House.
. . .
The 45th president renewed calls for congressional term limits, campaign finance reform and a lifetime ban on lobbying by former members of Congress and Cabinet officials.
“To further drain the swamp, I will push for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on members of Congress,” he said. “It’s time.”
That suggestion immediately drew a standing ovation from the audience.
“And I will ask for a permanent ban on taxpayer funding of campaigns, a lifetime ban on lobbying by former members of Congress and Cabinet members,” the former president said.
“I see what they make when they leave the White House or they leave Congress and they’re paid millions and millions and millions of dollars a year. No, you have to have a ban.”
Trump added: “We want a ban on members of Congress getting rich by trading stocks with insider information.”

However, his efforts were met with revulsion and resistance from the establishment class — not only from within the bowels of the entrenched D.C. swamp but also from its corporate media allies and minions in academia and Hollywood.
Little did any of us realize just how insidiously the establishment class had burrowed itself into the deepest recesses of our political machinery and of society itself.

Maybe they will, maybe they won't. I'm still voting for Donald Trump. How about you?
DeSantis if he decides to run.
I don’t trust democrates on anything.
Admirable goals, and definitely shooting for the stars! It occurs to me, to adequately drain the swamp, we also need to be rid of all the mid-level bureaucrats. Maybe at a certain level “civil servants” enter the realm of short-term employment contracts? Not sure what the answer is there.

6 terms for a congressman, 2 terms for a senator.
I wonder if they could be shamed into it? Another FReeper mentioned that after only 2 years on a salary of $170k AOC is already worth millions.
I bet there are a LOT of those stories in DC.
The commies have us in a spot where maybe we could flip the damn tables on them.
Congress...where people spend millions to get a job that pays “thousands”
TRUE.
Anybody who can do simple arithmetic on how large Congressional salaries are, and the public documents of said politicians net worth to know that ALL of Congress is "on the take" in some way. The only thing saving our asses right now is that they aren't all owned by the same power group, and that those groups are "sometimes" at odds with one another.
Concur.
Along with term limits, which I’ve advocated for a long time, I’d like to see a “sunset “ provision on all new legislation. It worked for the Brady Bill. Not having a sunset is how we manage to keep programs, etc. way past their time. Imagine if Obamacare had a sunset built in?
According to Breitbart in 2013:
Half of Retiring Senators Become Lobbyists, Up 1,500% in 40 Years

The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. He ought to have added that,
The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe itself with the public's money.
Maybe the States can band together and propose a term limits amendment, without congress’ permission or blessing.

It’s called, “Article V,” and we’re getting pretty close.
They’ll be doubling down on destroying him after this statement of intent.
I agree. We have to do the best with what we have right now as conservatives.
This all sounds great! Until you think about it a little bit.
Trump can propose these great ideas (they are really great) but there is no way CONgress will give up any of their power, control, and theft. The only thing that will stop that is a new Revolution.

Article V is a convention of the states. Can you imagine who the delegates from CA, MA, MD, MA and the rest will be? The crazed communist Democrats are likely to seize control with the help of Antifa & BLM.
