Moderate Republicans are preparing to flex their political muscles to ensure their newly-won but narrow House majority is not hijacked by conservative hard-liners from the Freedom Caucus who are looking to impose a new set of rules in 2023.

For example, the Freedom Caucus wants to restore an arcane rule allowing any lawmaker to call for a vote on removing the speaker at any time from the House floor. It wants to ensure that a floor vote is given to any amendment if at least 10% of the GOP conference is in support.
Other rules changes deal with instituting a "majority of the majority" rule, which would require that a majority of the GOP conference supports a bill before it advances to a floor vote. Hard-liners are also pushing for committee chairmen to be appointed by the members of their individual panels, rather than leadership.
Some would further like to see budget bills go through committees, instead of being combined with other pieces of legislation by leadership and sent directly to the House floor.
"There is a top-down driven program here in Washington, D.C., where leadership calls all the shots," said Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry, R-Pa. "We want to see some fundamental changes to how Congress operates."
Moderate Republicans say that some proposed rule changes are a non-starter, like making it easier to remove a speaker. That sets up an internal GOP fight over that policy and others if the Freedom Caucus keeps pushing for them.
"Frequent leadership overhauls would erode House Republicans' ability to deliver a common sense, conservative vision and meaningful results for the American people," said Minnesota Rep. Pete Stauber, who serves as co-chair of the centrist Republican Main Street Caucus.

Many retired or were defeated.
The article is wishful thinking.
This is the strategy to split the MAGA off the rest of the population.
And rest assured, the stupid party will take it up hook, line and sinker.
The lefties (and the press) glorified their fringe. Pubs are supposed to shut theirs up.
The usual surrender monkeys are dispaying their spinelessness again. They will fight the conservatives but then roll over for the democrats. Uniparty in action.
He must be referring to some other Republican Party because the one I know almost never does the above (which is how they ended up with Trump).
MAGA and Freedom Caucus are the mainstream right. The RINO moderates are the fringe.
Their newly-won majority? Those cowardly SOBs had nothing to do with it. And we all know they are going to spend the next two years doing their usual routine when the Republicans take over the majority of kowtowing to their democrat betters including still addressing the former committee chairs as Mr. Chairman while undercutting the actual Republican chairman.
There are new moderates elected in purple districts to replace those primaried in red districts.
Now that is what I call Common Sense Fiscal Reform. How hard would it be to debate budgets and budgets alone in committee meetings?
“MAGA and Freedom Caucus are the mainstream right.”
DESantis = Freedom Caucus
There are two options to ensure there aren't "frequent leadership overhauls".
1.) The leadership represents the will of the Republican caucus and their constituents.
OR
2.) The rules make it harder to remove leadership when they aren't representing the will of the Republican caucus and their constituents.
It looks like Paul Stauber favors option #2. I would be embarrassed if he were my congressman.
The problem is many(particularly older)GOPe types are OK with that...as many of their (big money)donors are the same as the dems OR they already got theirs, "you're on your own, suckers".
Here’s the list of the famous moderates in America History:
DeSantis in ‘28. Keep your shirt on or DeoSanctus Ronaldi risks alienating the base.
Conservatism and the Deep State
If your #1 goal is not to Drain the Swamp, you are not a conservative.
The reason for this is that Conservatism embraces smaller and less intrusive government. When a guy shows up in Washington talking about how he “wants to get things done” that is not conservatism.
Obsession with tax cuts is not conservatism. Taxes are money, a substance that comes from nothingness, created whimsically by the Fed. Such a substance cannot be the measure of anything ideological.
Conservatism is
Drain the Swamp
Build the Wall
America First in All Things
Pro 2nd Amendment
Pro Life
It is not lower taxes. It is not endless war. It is not ANYTHING that requires passing bills. Passing bills is advancing government.
Conservatism is opposing passage of nearly all bills.
Ron Paul was ideologically closer to Trump than one would believe.
