SEN. LUMMIS: DeSantis is leader of the Republican Party

Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) on Monday declared that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, not former President Trump, is the leader of the Republican Party, signaling GOP support is shifting away from Trump in the wake of the 2022 midterm election.

Asked by a reporter for Politico whether she would endorse Trump, Lummis replied, “I don’t think that’s the right question.”

“I think the question is who is the current leader of the Republican Party. Oh, I know who it is: Ron DeSantis,” she said.

“I’m saying currently, Ron DeSantis is the leader of the Republican Party, whether he wants to be or not,” she explained.

Damaged? Maybe for a week , in the media, but i see more and more GOP folks saying it wasnt Trump on the ballot last week. When is the last time you saw a politician take responsibility for their own failures. Its seems like the Trump backed candidates did well. So are the ones who lost and their allies are more likely to blame themselves for running lousy campaigns or the low hanging fruit… Trump. This is not a new phenomenon- GOP attacking Trump… is it? Cant wait for his announcement.

For a brief, agonizing time in 1992, I worked part time in the RNC Headquarters basement making calls to “reliable” lists of Republican donors on behalf of the RNC and the Bush 41 campaign. Nearly everyone I talked to said, “Thanks, but I’m saving my money while I watch what happens with Ross Perot”. It was seriously ugly. And whaddya know, we got Bubba Klinton as our President. I’m not sold on DeSantis either. Red flags are going up as he’s being officially pushed like the “next thing”....BLM, Ukraine, etc.

I was really loving what he was doing as Governor, but when I consider that he could turn around and try to take out Trump, AFTER using Trump to get where he is, well, that’s just a very snaky move. That’s weasel territory, regardless of what a terrific Governor he is.

IMHO - the only path for MAGA to dictate its agenda is to take over the Republican party.

And that's true for any political groups, including libertarians, etc.. if you don't have enough support to gain control of a party, you're certainly not going to have enough to win a general election.
