Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) on Monday declared that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, not former President Trump, is the leader of the Republican Party, signaling GOP support is shifting away from Trump in the wake of the 2022 midterm election.
Asked by a reporter for Politico whether she would endorse Trump, Lummis replied, “I don’t think that’s the right question.”
“I think the question is who is the current leader of the Republican Party. Oh, I know who it is: Ron DeSantis,” she said.
“I’m saying currently, Ron DeSantis is the leader of the Republican Party, whether he wants to be or not,” she explained.

Lummis is pretty conservative. Not one of the usual suspects.
Interesting to say the least.
My hope is today that Trump announces he is running for President as an independent. Free him from these traitorous. GOPe snakes.
They’re going to split the party in two. This is by design. America, the republic, is dead. Long live democracy.
That will guarantee a dem victory...
Could Trump defeat Kamala as an independent?
That would hand power to the Dems for the next several election cycles, no doubt about it.
Agree. I’d rather him run independent but I don’t think he could win as an independent so I don’t see that. If, however, a few well positioned people can get full ballot access and have independent runs then that could throw everything up in the air.
DeSantis is a lot smarter than Trump.
He could win with 34 percent in a three-way race.
Trump fatigue is real.
Ad opposed to just kneecapping him from within the party? That’s what they’re trying to do. If Trump is the nominee they still won’t accept it. They will be working for Biden
That hands 2024 to the Democrats. Not just the Presidency, but likely historically high majorities in Congress. Why would you want that?
I really don't get this "I'll just take my ball home" mentality. I prefer DeSantis, but I'd absolutely vote for Trump if he's the nominee because the alternative is so very much worse. Or do you see no difference between DeSantis and someone like Newsome?
More disciplined, not smarter. However DeSantis has proven he can run a state, Trump has proven he can run the country and the world.
He could, but the Democrats would win anywhere from 45-52 percent, so he'd still lose.
Today’s big announcement is not going to be about running for ‘24. Can’t be.
I don’t know what, however one source tells me it will be he and conservatives buying CNN.
I have other theories, some perhaps more likely than the CNN one. Should prove to be an interesting day.
As for ‘24, DJT has bigger fish on the menu.
Not electorally
