For Donald Trump, politics and entertainment are intertwined and often synonymous. His remarkable success at both makes his latest missteps especially puzzling because Trump is committing the cardinal sin of both: He’s become boring.
The ultimate shock jock is now predictable. Wind him up and watch him throw a garbage can full of insults at anyone who won’t kiss the ring. Ho-hum.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin are getting the Trump treatment now. Both are rising Republican stars, so naturally the former president trashes and demeans them. Can’t be competition for top dog.
Long gone is the time when Trump brought fresh blood to the old and tired Republican Party. “Low energy Jeb” brilliantly ended the career of a nominee-in-waiting, and his demolition of Hillary Clinton saved America from a disaster.
Trump’s was a consequential presidency that was far better for America and its global allies than anything produced by his predecessor or his successor. His Operation Warp Speed delivered a COVID-19 vaccine in record time, America was more prosperous and the world was safer and more stable with him in the Oval Office.
Trump achieved those gains despite a corrupt FBI, a conspiratorial Deep State, a rabid media and impeachment-obsessed Dems. He deserved a second term and, had he let his America First policies do the talking, would have had one.
Even after his reckless efforts to overturn the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, enough goodwill remained that victory in a 2024 primary and the general election remained possible. But Trump’s conduct in his post-presidency has been so erratic that a declining slice of voters hungers for his return.

Thank you, yours (and tOR’s) are among the few reasonable exchanges I’ve seen on FR on this topic.
I’ve long supported Trump (ever since Cruz blamed Trump for the fascists shutting down the Chicago rally) and will vote for him again if there’s an opportunity to do so. Questioning the value some of his recent statements (and I do) doesn’t make me a Communist, a troll, a Trump hater, or any of the other things those who do so get called.
Maybe he can’t because of a strategy he can’t divulge, but it would be helpful if Trump would elaborate on why he’s making those apparently unprompted comments instead of leaving many of his supporters to speculate.
You are kind.
You’ve probably noticed my temper gets sick of the name-calling and I lash out too.
Not perfect, here.
Just wish we could have our point listened to, rather than dismissed out of hand and told e.g., Trump’s style just shows hes “Tough” and of course, we RINOs are just wimps.
So yes, it does get wearing. Hard to resist the temptation to retort in kind.
What is the best avenue?
My friends look at it like this-
If Trump would get the media to like him then he’ll have won
They pretend to know all about religion but they don’t know the enemy
The enemy looks nice and enticing while ensnaring then when you’re in, it turns on you
It has no mercy.
They think it does. They think you can reason with it
I suggest people beware of wolves dressed in sheeps clithing. Gymuys who look good but who work for those who fund them
Trump is self funded. No one else is.
He is telling Imus to be careful. We like for everyone to fit into our paradigm
The enemy doesn’t work that way
Look at FLA. red wave. Same as the entire country. The only places not monitored by this new system were red waves
My rural and suburban. Calif. Education reps. And Florida.
Then chew on it. Red wave where votes mattered. Why? Do people think Floridians are somehow different from the rest of the country? I don’t see any evidence that they are. Why were they allowed to vote? Why was their governor allowed to fix the system? Would he be allowed to if he had the White House? There’s no evidence that he would even try
“It’s not about voting.”
True.
If every institution is run by liberals.
I don’t see how voting is going to change policies or the direction of the nation.
This country is being led by arrogant psychos.
“One thing for sure Dixie population grows”
Good, the numbers game counts.
The South is the most conservative region both now and historically.
If we could peek into the future 200 years from now, it’ll be the same.
ahhh, so this “jerk” repeats the question you ignore ... who will fight as hard or effectively? YOU got noone, and I rest my case loser...
“Hard to resist the temptation to retort in kind.”
Unfortunately, been there/done that too. Trying to break the habit...
Aren't opinions exactly that? If it was 100% proven, it wouldn't be an opinion, it would be a fact.
It's my opinion that you are confused about the difference between an opinion, and a fact.
Trump has destroyed Pennsylvania.
I will never forgive him for that.
Keep in mind that the PA Legislature changed the laws regarding mail in ballots in 2019 (before COVID-19).
The PA Legislature shoulders a lot of the blame.
He has a lower favorability rating than Biden. Tell me how he improves his favorability rating, esp. with independents.
Are you on LSD?
That's an interesting question. I can't say that there is anyone who would fight harder than Trump. Maybe some would fight as hard, but not harder.
But "effectively" is a different question. I think Trump is remarkably ineffective for how hard he fights. And that's because he's shown himself to be rather poor at hiring good subordinates. Without good subordinates, it is almost impossible to redirect properly something as large as the federal government.
His effectiveness also is reduced by his habit of personally attacking and alienating anyone who disagrees with them. That makes it very hard to build the alliances necessary to get big things done. People who otherwise might be willing to work with him on an issue don't simply because they have come to hate his guts.
It is interesting to note the the “long depression” coincides with the greatest surge of immigration from Europe.
My own ancestors arrived between 1890 and 1898. They immediately found employment.
They were the “Downstairs” people in the great NYC mansions, and servants in the grand hotels. Parlor maids, chauffeurs, gardeners, stable hands, etc.
Today, their descendants are CEO’s, doctors, lawyers, college professors, small business owners, stockbrokers, etc.
Many conclusions can be drawn.
It seems that bad times can lead to good times for hardworking people of faith and fortitude.
That, too, and the weakness of leadership in the PA Republican party.
Not true
... I appreciate the thoughtful post, but will disagree based on the fact that DS Rinos won’t be persuaded or drawn to his positions. As far as hires, he was making decisions in the WH to clean up after the mess deliberately left by ObamaoBiden and left the big loyalty talking Cristie to fill hundreds of positions... he didn’t seem like the loser he is in 2016. ChinaMitch hemmed him in with DS choices, especially confirmation ones after 2016. And look at the pressure put on him even having choices for lawyers as firms were threatened with no Fortune100 business if anyone stepped up to represent him. None of the above was by accident and the Uniparty pulled out all the stops after the HillaryCheat in 2016 wasn’t big enough to stop him... ymmv

Oh! Now Conservatives are ready, with it being too late and everything!
“It seems that bad times can lead to good times for hardworking people of faith and fortitude.”
Exactly.
Those times will happen again and the way our ancestors dealt with tough times is a good road map in any era.
