Inside GOP, calls grow for party chair to resign in wake of midterms

Agrowing number of Republican Party officials are frustrated with GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel following Tuesday's midterm elections and want her to resign, according to Republican sources familiar with the situation.

"People are upset and want to replace Ronna," said one veteran Republican National Committee official. "They're calling for her resignation but not publicly. [RNC] members are calling for accountability as they should."

The official noted that, even before the 2022 midterms, Democrats gained control of the House in 2018 and then did the same in 2020 for both the White House and the Senate — including a runoff election in Georgia. McDaniel has been chairing the RNC since 2017.

Leading into Election Day this week, polling had indicated for months that Republicans would enjoy a landslide, red wave victory. However, Republican hopes for such a victory faded Tuesday night as Democrats performed better in House races than expected and won some key Senate and gubernatorial seats considered vulnerable.

As the vote count currently stands, neither party has secured a majority in the House or Senate, with more ballots to be tallied and more states to be decided. Republicans are leading and still likely to win control of the House, but by a much smaller margin than forecast. As for the Senate, it's anyone's guess, but any majority will be razor thin.

Still, McDaniel argued the results amounted to a big win for the GOP.

"I think the night turned out great," she said on Fox News after the election. "We are retiring [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi. There was a wave that happened last night, and we are waving goodbye to Speaker Pelosi. And we are going to have a Republican majority in the House, which also means we're going to be able to stop this disastrous Biden agenda that's hurting..."

Hopefully by then, most of the newly minted Never Trumpers at FR will wake up and realize that they have been duped by the democRAT/MSM/RINO coalition.

I get the impression that the RNC and the GOP Senate and House campaign committees all complacently assumed that, based on history and polling, they were near guaranteed to win the House and Senate. As a result, they did not do the hard work of establishing issues to run on and recruiting, training, financing, and supporting candidates. And the GOP House and Senate committees seem to have looked mostly to assure that GOP nominees and any winners would be loyal to their leaders, Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell.

The result is a little like what one would expect if an NFL team decided not to practice before a game or suit up their best players because the odds favored them to win anyway, and if during the game, players on the sideline and between plays were on their cell phones tending to personal business. The RNC needs new leadership, as do the GOP House and Senate members.

“Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel pledged her party would work with President Joe Biden if they win control of Congress in the midterm elections just two days away.”

Mitt has zero chance of being re-elected in Utah. His back stabbing of Mike Lee by endorsing Evan McMullin was the last straw.

They have already talked to Kevin McCarthy about it. That tells me that if they keep cheating to win the House again that they plan to vote her in.The Speaker does not need to be a member of Congress which Cheney is not. This may have been their plan all along. Cheney got along well and did the bidfing of Nancy Pelosi on the J6 committee maybe Nancy would be willing to retire and give up the gavel to someone who hates Trump as much as she does.

It’s this and the Senators know and the candidates know it. Mitch is a great game—player—he wins every time—gets people electef who support only him. He’s an evil man who has destroyed the GOP. I see Runio and Hawley who know the score publicly standing up to him which is a good sign. 30 years if that guy and his ilk are what got us where we are now.

“I read today on another message board that it’s possible that Dems could vote to have Liz as Speaker. Is that possible?”

Possible but not probable. If I understand their rules correctly.

My guess is, if enough Dems support her, she could win. There are enough anti-MAGA Republicans to carry her over.

Absolutely! Get rid of Ronna Romney.

Do not let the RINO Establishment duck responsibility for their myriad failures by projecting it onto MAGA. They held the reins of power. They controlled RNC money. The responsibility for doing things like pulling funding from critical senate candidates who were close like Masters and Boldoc rests with the Turtle, Ronna Romney and Kevin McCarthy.

She was handpicked by Trump for loyalty to him. She’s closer to Trumpthan Mitt.

Trump chose people poorly frequently. Chris Christie is at the top of that list. McDaniel isn't far behind the "Kingpin".
