—”Russia would have to overturn its entire social system to substantially reform. “

The depth of the corruption is beyond incredible.

A most interesting report on DW(German NPR???):

“How Russia‘s corrupt ‘police state‘ sells it own spies “
https://youtu.be/s15FkbIMdqA

A 26 min video, mostly compelling, if time is short tune in at the ~15 min mark.

Lower-level Russian workers selling phone records and more...

Ping. Looks like Russians will corrupt themselves out of business. We have similar problems with our military - defense establishment.

Proof in the pudding is Russia being forced to buy artillery shells from North Korea. Drones and missiles from Iran. Nicolai Patrushev was in Iran last week trying to reason with the ayatollahs, to sell Russia more drones and missiles

Russia is going up against the combined might of Western industry. Left alone without infusion of Western-made components, their industry cannot even dream of coming close to match them. The Russian industry will be irreversibly damaged unless the West decide to help rebuild their industry after the war. I believe odds of it happening are slim to none for now. I think the West wants to make sure that Russia would never have the industrial capacity to wage another large conventional war against the West. We are more than half-way there.

LOL. How about Russia and China produce competencies in areas currently dominated by Western powers? It worked just great for them previously.
The article is a bunch of baloney.
The armament program is getting scrapped because it was geared towards “small hightech professional army” which is not going to work in current realities.
The US MIC is going to follow. If you think that the Russian industry is incapable, you need to do a research on how the American one operates. In current from it is not going to sustain a major war.

Production can be shifted toward simpler cheaper hardware which can be mass-produced. You don't have to worry about US. They are changing too. If both try the same approach, Russia is still in disadvantage. It would still require modern electronic hardware, precision manufacturing, and very specialized materials(instrumental in mass-producing aforementioned sophisticated hardware), and advanced control software

If you think about the role of drones in this war, you may see where this is heading to. Mass production of swarm drones and advanced control system to use them as a coordinated swarm. China may match in terms of quantity. Quality is a different matter. Quantity of hardware and quality of control software would be a key.

By the way, industrial efficiency in Russia does not seem to be good. If manufacturing process is inefficient and faulty, you have problems no matter what you try.

I heard from Obama that Russia is going to starve after 2014 sanctions. It has become the top food exporter instead.

Change the program all he wants, but the money will still be stolen.
