Kevin McCarthy's bid to be House speaker is in jeopardy (McCarthy, McConnell, McDaniel, McFailure)

In 2015, bomb-throwers in the House Freedom Caucus derailed Kevin McCarthy’s quest to become speaker.

Seven years later, members of the ultraconservative, Trump-aligned group are once again causing major headaches for McCarthy as the California Republican makes another run for the top job.

NBC News has not yet projected which party will control the House, but an estimate modeling the outcome finds Republicans with a slightly better chance. Republicans would have a razor-thin majority should they win.

Even though no major news network has made the call, House Republicans have begun jockeying for leadership roles under the assumption that they will be able to seize power.

McCarthy has spent years trying to position himself to be the next Republican House speaker. The job holds tremendous power, including the ability to control legislation on the floor and influence the makeup of committees.

Some House Freedom Caucus members are outright opposed to McCarthy, while others are demanding concessions from him that would greatly water down his power as speaker.

THis bid is in jeopardy because they are slow-walking the results until the democrats get the results they want. There will be no vote because we won't own the house.

Just watch....

McCarthy hasn’t done or said anything to make me believe he is anything but a RINO, or at most a fair-weather conservative. If he is confronted with the choice of negotiating to achieve goals, he will negotiate away our rights.

1) Let’s see if the GOP has a majority first.

2) Second - IF the GOP has a majority, voting against McCarthy is stupid, and possibly reckless. McCarthy can count on up to 210 Democrats voting for him if he needs them - he would be their dream GOP Speaker come true, if necessary, because he’s non-ideological and incompetent.

Compromise in GOP caucus is to get a strong Majority Leader who can actually run the show and McCarthy gets the nice title, fancier office..

The caucus will not matter, with a House majority <5 and 210 Democrats who want McCarthy.

Kevin’s “Agreement with America” or whatever was weak sauce. It read like it had been through dozens of lawyers and Lutz foucs groups.

John King is from CNN but he is very accurate. He said that the Democrats would have to sweep all the remaining races just to get to 218.

Rubio just Tweeted that the Senate GOP needs to postpone next week’s scheduled vote for Senate Leader to instead focus on finding someone who understands the average American. Hawley is on board as well. Music to my ears.

Totally agree...not a wartime consigliere.

May the era of the milquetoast be over, once and for all.
