Oregon’s law(s) about gun control are trying to force sheriffs to carry much of the burden, and private citizens the rest. The laws are unfunded mandates that will force sheriffs to deal with permitting and background checks, which mean hiring more staff at a time when hiring personnel is difficult already.
My coastal county has a serious crime problem, and catch-and-release policy, due to the county jail refusing new inmates. And a 5 year bond measure to add 50 beds just failed.
