I am a minority here, but I think his actual proposal was very moderate. I would want something more restrictive (but not a total ban).
It was just that people at large might have been OK with what Lindsay said, but didn’t want Republicans to be in charge of coming up with the federal abortion law and he raised this possibility.
You are absolutely correct, his proposal would have ended up codifying a form of Roe.
But Republicans had zero interest in a national abortion law, and I can’t believe he’s that dumb right before this election.
I think he did it on purpose to help what he views as “moderates” and to hurt MAGA candidates.
