Russia Says Withdrawal From Ukraine’s Kherson Completed
The Moscow Times ^ | Nov. 11, 2022

Posted on 11/11/2022 6:18:03 AM PST by Salohcin

Russia said Friday it had completed its withdrawal of forces from the southern city of Kherson, two days after Moscow said it had made the "difficult decision" to pull back amid Ukrainian advances.

"Today at 5 o'clock in the morning Moscow time, the transfer of Russian troops to the left bank of the Dnipro River was completed," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Telegram.

“There was no loss of personnel, weapons and military equipment,” the ministry said, adding civilians “were assisted in the evacuation.”

Following the withdrawal, the Kremlin said that the city of Kherson was still part of Russia, as Moscow claimed to have annexed the Kherson region in September.

"This is a subject of the Russian Federation. There are no changes in this and there cannot be changed," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

Russia announced Wednesday it was withdrawing its forces from Kherson due to its inability to supply Russian forces there, abandoning the only Ukrainian regional capital it has captured in its nearly nine-month invasion.

The decision to pull back to the left bank of the Dnipro River came after months of intense fighting in the area, with Ukrainian troops making incremental gains against a large Russian force.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday that Kyiv's forces had recaptured over 40 towns and villages in southern Ukraine as Russia retreated.

Moscow declared its annexation of four partially occupied Ukrainian regions — Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Luhansk — after holding widely disputed referendums in each region.

The annexation was rejected by Kyiv and widely condemned by Western countries.

AFP contributed reporting.

LOL, is Kherson still part of Russia after the retreat? How does this work? I was told 85% of people voted for annexation, why are they all celebrating?

Update on Russian military operations in and around Ukraine for November 11, 2022.

- Russia completes withdrawal from Kherson city to east bank of the Dnieper River;
- Ukraine has lost its last major opportunity to corner and destroy/capture large numbers of Russian forces/equipment;
- Russia continues stated process of de-militarizing Ukraine;
- US aid to Ukraine becomes increasingly unrealistic - Hawk missiles designed in the 1960s and unused for 2 decades are being "refurbished" for a lack of better options;
- "Avenger" systems to be sent in small numbers (4) which are essentially Stinger missiles attached to a Hummer - after training for Ukrainian operators is completed;
- Dwindling amounts of basic ammunition continue to be sent to Ukraine, prolonging the conflict, but not in quantities to even allow Ukraine to hold what it has;
- As Russian forces withdrew from Kherson city, they advanced elsewhere in southern and northern Donbass.

I’m responding to the ridiculous theory that Ukraine secretly loves Russia and wants to roll over and be carved up if only the US didn’t intervene and force it to fight. Not the morality of US intervention.

Why is the US there in the first place?
Was Ukraine made apart of NATO announced or something?

That was the hope, but that hope is already collapsing. Russkies now building fortifications far to the south.

Kherson may just go BOOM very loudly soon. If not a boomer, it will probably be FAE’s, Russia invented them....

How typically Russian of you. No, Russia did not invent them. The Germans worked on them, but the first true thermobaric bombs were employed by the U.S. in Vietnam.

Here's you on October 20, Post 24:

"No, it means Russia is prepared to slaughter the Ukrainian army in Kherson."

https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/4102037/posts?page=24#24

You on October 13, post 59:

"Ukraine has no chance whatsoever to take back Kherson or defeat the Russian military on its own."

https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/4100347/posts?page=59#59

And this, post 12:

Translation from neocon to reality: What’s left of the Ukrainian military is making its last stand in Kherson. The Russians are preparing to repeal and destroy the invaders into Russian soil.

https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/4100347/posts?page=12#12

There is a ton more, going back months. You're pro-Russia propaganda is falling apart.

Oh man.

It’s so true.

These commie Pu Mao freaks are pathetically funny.

I saw a post in September about taking back Kherson and saw the pu Mao comments of it will never happen, so I followed the progress to see if they were right.

They obviously weren’t.

I’ve never seen such leftist agit prop here as these Pu Mao post.

Yes vatnik, we’re all too stupid to realize all those videos of Ukrainian troops parading and celebrating with the locals are all CGI. After all, Russia said Kherson still belongs to them!

You really got me good!

“There was no loss of personnel, weapons and military equipment,” the ministry said, adding civilians “were assisted in the evacuation.”

That is a lot of clap trap. You could not do a peacetime withdrawal with out losing something. That anyone would believe that the Russian freely evacuated and had no losses is an idiot.

It was obvious months ago that the Russians were going to lose Kherson. It never made military sense to have an isolated bridgehead like that across a major river. That wasn't really a slam on the Russians - it was just basic reading of terrain.

But despite that, the pro-Russian crowd would have none of it. They absolutely insisted that there was no possible way Ukraine could ever recover Kherson, and that anyone who said otherwise must be a paid pawn of the Deep State and George Soros. It was nuts.

Now, they explain the retreat by saying it just is moving to a better defensive position, which is the exact same argument thy openly ridiculed for months.

“ Orderly withdrawal by the bulk of Russian forces in Kherson says it all.”
************************************************************************

Pretty sure this was an agreed upon orderly withdrawal with agreement between Russia and Ukraine’s primary “sponsors” with the junior partner Ukrainian ordered to go along. It went too smoothly to be anything other than that. Just IMHO, of course.
