Northeast Faces Winter Energy Crisis as Biden Promises ‘No More Drilling’
The Washington Free Beacon ^ | November 7, 2022 | Philip Caldwell •

Joe Biden and other Democrats promise to curtail U.S. domestic oil production, the northeastern United States could face a historic energy crisis as temperatures fall this winter, burdening an energy economy already beset by record-high prices and oil shortages.

Signs of vulnerability in the Northeast have been apparent in recent months, Bloomberg reported, with retailers already rationing oil as stockpiles of diesel and heating oil are at a third of their normal levels. Those unfavorable conditions could bring about challenges to the Northeast's energy infrastructure that would be unprecedented in most Americans' lifetimes, according to Bloomberg:

Add some cold to the mix, and in the best-case scenario, Northeast consumers will shoulder the highest energy bills in decades this winter. The Biden administration, under pressure to tame prices ahead of the midterm elections, is considering ways to stash more diesel and gasoline in New England. In the worst-case scenario, a cluster of states with a combined economy bigger than Japan's will run out of fuel to keep the lights on and heat homes and businesses.

Even as the Northeast is facing energy shortages, Biden at a campaign event in New York on Sunday reiterated his commitment to shut down the U.S. fossil fuel industry. "No more drilling," Biden yelled at a climate protester in the crowd. Meanwhile, in Michigan, Democratic lieutenant governor Garlin Gilchrist on Saturday promised to "close more coal plants" to "strengthen our state's response to the climate crisis."

The threat of energy instability poses a difficult conundrum for the Biden administration, according to Bloomberg, because the administration may have to choose between boosting oil exports to European allies facing economic pain through their participation in sanctions against Russia and keeping oil supplies at home to help U.S. consumers.

Consumers in the Northeast are expected to face a punishing winter, with energy bills 23 percent higher than last year. And homes that rely on heating oil, of which there are many in New England and the Mid-Atlantic, may pay twice as much to heat their homes than the typical northeastern family, Bloomberg reported.

The Northeast isn't the only U.S. region facing a historic energy crisis. Last month, a major fuel supply company warned that conditions in the diesel supply market are "rapidly devolving" and that it expects several southeastern states to experience a serious diesel shortage.

I especially hope that every moron in Pennsylvania who voted for Biden 2.0 freezes their ass off. Enjoy the suck.

I agree. Let them worthless c-suckers freeze and starve.

They’ll howl and yell and it’ll get them nothing except the same from the scum they favor and vote in office.

They made the choice to vote for this. They have to deal with it. Hopefully they’ll see the error of their ways, but I doubt it.

The leftard women voters can warmly bask in their ‘Roe the vote’ abortion sacrament. Nothing else matters to them so nor should high cost, low availability energy effect them either.

They'll get HEAP energy welfare benefits, you'll get to pay for it as some of it is a federal program. Our country is inching towards socialism and I don't think we can stop it.

You might better look at the maps in NY. It is the same MO as always. The big cities stole the election. If you go by land mass then most of NY is very red. It is not very nice of you and others to condemn all those red voters to freeze to death. USA today shows the maps.

No problem. The Republicans will win the House & Senate, implement a strong domestic pro-energy program and everybody will have toasty houses in the winter, diesel fueled trucks, ships and trains will have plenty of fuel, and we will all live happily ever after.

What a nation of fools that so many of us would rather freeze to death in dark houses than vote "R." I hate to say it, but the nation deserves what it is going to get and it is going to get it good and hard.

I was in the power industry for three-quarters of my career starting the day I graduated from mechanical engineering school. For the first half, the engineers ran the business and we did one hell of a good job delivering plentiful, cheap power. Then the greenies and lawyers took over and, as you say, they made it “nearly impossible for us to do our jobs.”

I suffered through that for 15 years and just couldn’t take the politics anymore, so I left the industry. For a long time, the industry could pretend to play the political game while still running a sound technical ship. But then every single investment decision became political, not technical and I couldn’t stand it any longer. It’s gotten far worse since I left the industry 22 years ago, too.

Why doesn’t the Northeast simply embark on a crash program to build a million windmills and solar panels? Problem solved.

Indeed. My entire family voted Republican in PA but Philly and Pittsburgh are fraudulent as always.

“Hopefully they’ll see the error of their ways”

The past two years have been absolutely horrific, but people across the land voted for more of the same.

I don’t think the sheeple will see the error of their ways until it is too late, until it gets so bad that we are invaded by an enemy, don’t have the brainpower, manufacturing base, energy or military power to defeat them, and we all learn the victor’s language.

I’m guessing that they believe that there will be no freeze, being convinced by that Global Warming thing. Me on the other hand, brought in a couple cords of wood for the winter.

A colder than normal winter in the northeast could mean people literally freezing because of heating oil shortages or their inability to pay the cost of heating. I expect significant deaths among seniors as a result. There is also the spector of power blackouts with the devastating results we saw last year in Texas.

I live here in NH and I hope it is the coldest winter in 100 years.

I would love to see thousands, hundreds of thousands of New Englanders loose electricity, Nat Gas, etc... in the middle of a huge blizzard ... just so they can see the folly of their decisions. I can’t wait to say to people “how are those wind mills and solar panels doing for ya!”.

I have 14 cords of wood to burn so i’m all set.

Then we both have some folks to be concerned about.

Hopefully the ones that are not ‘rotgut leftards’ will be nice and warm this winter.
