Joe Biden's climate change envoy John Kerry had an uncomfortable encounter with Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro on Tuesday - a man with a $15 million Justice Department bounty on his head.
The Venezuelan leader was charged by the DoJ in March 2020 with nacro-terrorism, corruption and drug trafficking, and the U.S. offered a $15 million reward for 'information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Maduro'.
Kerry, who was Secretary of State under Barack Obama, from 2013 to 2017, was in the Egyptian resort of Sharm-el-Sheikh for the COP27 climate change conference.
Maduro, one of 90 world leaders at the gathering, approached the 78-year-old and held out his hand. Amid the Russia-Ukraine war and subsequent energy crunch, his country is of extreme interest to the United States, given that it possesses the world's largest oil reserves.
The pair shook hands, and exchanged brief words, with Kerry at one point wagging his finger and smiling
They shook hands a second time, and Maduro moved on.
Footage of the encounter went viral, and was seized upon by Maduro's supporters, who shared it widely on social media

I thought Maduro was still in office.
Kerry is disgusting.
American Patriots Against John KerryThe 1970 meeting that John Kerry conducted with North Vietnamese communists violated U.S. law, according to an author and researcher who has studied the issue.
Kerry met with representatives from “both delegations” of the Vietnamese (North Vietnamese and Viet Cong) in Paris in 1970, according to Kerry’s own testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on April 22, 1971. But Kerry’s meetings with the Vietnamese delegations were in direct violation of laws forbidding private citizens from negotiating with foreign powers, according to researcher and author Jerry Corsi, who began studying the anti-war movement in the early 1970s.
According to Corsi, Kerry violated U.S. code 18 U.S.C. 953. “A U.S. citizen cannot go abroad and negotiate with a foreign power,” Corsi told CNSNews.com.
By Kerry’s own admission, he met in 1970 with delegations from the North Vietnamese communist government and discussed how the Vietnam Warshould be stopped.
Traitor trash!
I concur.
He is. Venezuela is a banana republic now and the National Assembly has been stripped of any real power. They declared an opponent of Maduro to be president and some countries, the U.S. included, recognize him as president. Maduro and his supporters are still in control of everything and most countries recognize him as the leader. I expect the reference to "Venezuela's ex-president Nicolas Maduro" comes from the U.S. not recognizing him as president, but that doesn't really mean anything since he's still in the big house and in control of everything.
So Biden’s DoJ doesn’t consider Maduro to be the legitimate president of Venezuela?
That’s OK, I don’t think most Venezuelans consider Biden the legitimate president of the U.S.
I know I don’t.
Maybe I forgot to watch Oprah the day that happened?
Thanks.
Kerry loves socialist pigs
What a disgrace.
Open letter to the United States of America Department of Justice:
Nicolas Maduro is right now in Egyot with Accomplice traitor John Kerry.
At the Egyptian resort of Sharm-el-Sheikh.
Or he may be back in Venezuela.
Please send $15 Million reward to FreeRepublic.com in care of Jim Robinson.
LOL Indeed! Good call.
That should take care of a few of the freepathons.
Kerry’s too much of a whimp to make a citizens arrest to collect the 15 LARGE.
He commands an guerrilla army of the walking dead?
Oh, sorry! That would be necro-terrorism
Regards,
Too bad a squad of Navy Seals didn't "take him out" right at that moment. Boys could have swept the area with machine gun fire and then lobbed a hand grenade, "just to be sure."
Maduro could then have been racked up as "unfortunate, but unavoidable collateral damage."
Regards,
Juan Guaido is not the Venezuelan President.
Nicolas Maduro is the legitimate President of Venezuela.
US/UK have seized over a billion dollars of Venezuelan gold which was held in the Bank of England.
UK Supreme Court ruled Juan Guaido, who never even ran for President of VZ should get that gold, valued at almost 2 billion dollars.
Maduro had said if the UK would not return the money, then it would like to see it go to health care for poorer countries. That was refused by the UK.
Recently, the US sent envoys to VZ to beg for oil. Read about the attempted assassination of Maduro via Drone several years ago. Most likely sponsored by the US. IIRC, Trump was still President during that failed attempt.
Our sanctions against countries like Venezuela, and Syria are not laudable. In fact in the past 24 hours, the US bombed a civilian tanker, killing about 30 civilians, which was bringing much needed fuel to Syria. Meanwhile we are stealing Syria’s oil, and wheat.
Kerry never met a commie he won’t sell out to.
MM, in the Swiftboaters circle of Names guys
