Elite Russian Naval Unit Reacts to Stunning Loss of 300 Men in Pavlivka: 'Baffling'

High-ranking unit in the Russian navy is reeling after experiencing significant losses in a recent offensive.

The 155th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade was involved in Wednesday attack on a Ukrainian military garrison in Pavlivka, a town southwest of the recently annexed Donetsk region, according to The Moscow Times on Monday. The offensive intended to give Russian forces access to a key supply line in the area.

In the wake of the offensive, the elite naval unit is reportedly pointing the finger at "baffling" leadership decisions that led to the loss of roughly 300 men. These complaints were made in a letter shared by a handful of Russian media figures online, which was sent by the unit to regional leaders in its home region in Russia's Far East.

The introductory paragraph saw the marines of the unit accuse their leaders of being motivated by pay bonuses, promises, and military honors.

"Once again, we were thrown into a baffling offensive by General Muradov and his fellow countryman Akhmedov in order for Muradov to earn bonuses in front of [Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff for the Russian military] and Akhmedov Muradov promised a hero of Russia," the letter reads, as translated by the online program, Yandex. "As a result, we and the Kamchatka Marines are advancing on Pavlivka. As a result of a 'carefully' planned offensive by the 'great commanders', we lost about 300 people killed, wounded, and missing in 4 days. 50 percent of the equipment. This is just our team."

The letter accuses their leaders of hiding the true statistics from higher-ups for fear of facing accountability for their failures. They also accused them of leading men into doomed offensives for the sake of boosting their own prestige.

"The district command together with [the brigade commander] are hiding this..

You lost me on “attacking Russia”

Unless you mean attacking Russian forces in Ukraine, then I don’t believe this.

The story wasn’t about Ukrainian casualties. It was about Russian. I’m sure a story will pop up that talks about Ukrainian casualties. Keep your paints on

“Does anybody even believe any of this stuff (from either side)?”

Just look at which side is constantly having to adjust its story a few weeks or a month later.

Naval Infantry is often called Marines in the West.

One thing out of all of this that I do believe, is that the Russian military isn’t what we’ve been told all of these years.

Not a paper tiger by any means but I’m really left wondering about the quality of their equipment, battlefield technology and warfighter preparation

Would appear to me that their upper level leadership are/were all yes men and afraid to provide proper intelligence and Soldier/equipment preparedness stats to Putin. .

I constantly see MSN and Daily Mail changing their tune and dragging things out. You should see what the Chief of Strategic Forces said today in an article from The Drive. I’m not optimistic about this situation.

There are also rumors from Ukraine that Sullivan has pressed Zelensky to launch a Kherson campaign as soon as possible. Zelensky is said to have agreed to do so.

But the Ukrainian army does not want to do that - at least not now. The Russian troops in the area have been reinforced. The fields are muddy and can not be crossed by heavy vehicles. Russian artillery attacks destroy equipment pre-positioned for the attack before it is ready to come near the front line.

The Ukrainian military has for weeks tried probing attacks in the Kherson region. These had no significant results while the attacking units had high losses. The units deployed around the region have been there since early October or longer. The Military Land deployment map shows only one unit that arrived just five days ago. The 98th Azov battalion, one of the fascist volunteer forces, has been positioned in the back of 128th Mountain Assault Brigade which, in recent weeks, has had some of the most serious losses.

The use of such 'nationalist' forces to prevent the retreat of exhausted front line units has been a regular occurrence in this war.

Ukraine has for weeks had no success on the battle field. Washington wants it to show such a success so that it can tell its allies that the war can be won by the Ukrainian side. The push for an attack on Kherson is again part of the overall campaign to convince Europeans that they should sustain the efforts to arm and support Ukraine.

The campaign is misleading. Ukraine is losing the war badly. But the U.S. wants to fight Russia down to the last Ukrainian - and down to the last Euro.

For one thing, this is almost 9 months after Russia launched its 3-day invasion with a week or 2 mopping up to do, that alone pretty much answers the issue of who is more truthful.

Now, look at the last 9 months from the beginning to today and look at the past claims from each side and where the battlefield is today, it seems pretty clear whose side has been making more accurate updates.

Not so if you believe the dreck about them wanting to take the whole country over. I’m inside and know the truth. We are getting sold a bill of goods. This is designed to make us look good. We have lost a step or two since you were in.

Not much of any of them. You have to sift through lots of BS from both sides.

It seems you have veered off into some other conversation.

I guess you will have to continue to be puzzled.

I’m not puzzled. You are in denial like many Cold Warriors are. The face of warfare and geopolitics has changed dramatically in the last 15 years.

I’m on the subject of geopolitics and the current situation and how it relates to tge overall scheme of things. I think big picture and see how all the pieces fit together. This situation in the Ukraine is colossal Charlie Foxtrot for everyone involved. We need to uninvolve ourselves and deal with China who is the biggest threat. We are wasting time, money and equipment which I know for sure.

You are in denial like many Cold Warriors are.

They're still fighting the Battle of the Fulda Gap.

They'll win any day now.

The whole geopolitical structure and military technology has seriously changed. It takes lots of research and involvement to understand it. What we did during the Cold War was right for the time but now is becoming rapidly obsolete.
