Former President Donald Trump has told several allies he could announce a 2024 presidential run Monday night at a rally for Ohio Republican Senate candidate JD Vance, The Post has learned.
A well-connected Republican source said the 45th president was “telling people he might tonight, but it’s not a done thing.”
Trump told several prominent conservatives over the past two weeks that he would formally throw his hat in the ring during his 8 p.m. appearance with Vance in Dayton, Ohio.
But it’s unclear if the notoriously mercurial 76-year-old intends to actually do so on the eve of an election in which Republicans are favored to win the House and possibly the Senate.
“It’s not inconceivable that this is just Trump doing Trump things,” the source said, adding: “This all could be a ploy by Trump to get people to pay attention to the rally.”
“This is so classic … We’re not going to know until he gets on stage.”

THEN, a few days later, after most of the electoral dust has settled, then come out and ZaP the world again with your big announcement. I heard next monday, Nov. 14th, might be the day of declaration. I hope that’s what happens.

Is this going to help with the critical elections tomorrow or is this primarily going to help Trump grab as much self-attention as possible while risking a possible fragile electoral outcome?
Assuming a huge red wave, why not instead take a victory lap and then announce?

Trump is a master showman and maybe this is just hype to get everyone to watch his rally. If that is the case, hopefully it works. But should he actually announce tonight? No. He should not step on the story of Republicans making huge gains in the midterm elections. He should not even announce tomorrow. He should give the winners a couple days to bask in the story of the Republican win. Then he can announce.
He’ll have the ENTIRE media watching a Trump rally, haha.
