Did you notice he said “Christians” vs “Catholics” at the very beginning? I’m only a minute in, but he didn’t say Catholics yet.
I do think that he is referring to Catholicism. I can find other videos from the same source that explicitly state Catholics. Like William Shatner’s story.
This is a good series of videos. And shows the persecution of Jews by “Christians.”
I’m only 6 or 7 minutes in to his talk, and I just want to reiterate that he has said many times over that he was taught that the Jewish people were being persecuted by Christians. He says it over and over. Not once has he said that Jews were persecuted by Catholics.
His story so far is very compelling, and it’s interesting to me that he never read any of the Old Testament beyond his bar mitzvah. Maybe he didn’t continue going to Temple?
As you say, perhaps the Jewish people as a means of preserving their lineage, have passed on this idea that they were being persecuted by Christians.
One of my son’s good friends is Jewish, and he was about to celebrate Hanukkah last year (he is married to a sweet Protestant girl, though I don’t know which denomination she practices), and I asked him if his family really does more of a true celebration during Purim. He said, why yes, and was surprised that I’d even heard of it. Now I realize there aren’t many Catholics who haven’t studied the Old Testament the way I have, and I’m no scholar. I do think it’s wonderful to learn about the Jewish faith because it gives light to my own.
Sergio & Rhoda in Israel
Sergio was Jewish and Rhoda was Arab. Both have become Christians and they show the Biblically significant sites in Israel. Since I lack the the time and money to travel to Israel, this is the next best thing.
Keep going there if you want to. I’ve been put down for my Catholic faith plenty. I can handle it.
I’ve heard some wild things from Protestant friends about what they heard Catholics do. None of it was true. I think the craziest thing I heard one of them say was that they thought I had to sleep with my priest before getting married. I reassured them that was a complete lie.
So maybe we’ve all been misled about each other’s faiths to keep us from venturing out and finding out that we had a lot of things in common. I’ll go with that.
I wonder how many Jews are aware of this. Maybe they don't care. Maybe it is not important. However, if the Jewish orthodoxy are telling their followers these lies, then that is not good. Anyway, it is this animosity, maybe well founded, towards Christians by Jews that prevents them from accepting Yeshua.
I’d love to go to Israel, as well. Maybe someday.
Funny, I’ve never been taught that the New Testament is Catholic (only). Always that it is Christian. Since I haven’t finished watching the video, I will. Maybe he says that in the parts I haven’t gotten to so far.
Been nice chatting with you. Dinner prep is calling.
We don't attend church but we do read the Bible a lot. More so than many church attenders.
Important point: religion can lose its way when it becomes too big and with too many people. I guess that this same thing applies to Protestant Churches, too. I wouldn't know, though. I haven't been to a church in years.
It is as if Jews don't acknowledge Protestantism. Maybe it is just easier to blame Catholics. But yes, Jews in this series, and probably generally, use Christian and Catholic interchangeably.
Likewise. It has been a pleasure. Sincerely.
