Alaska Senate could see flip to coalition control if Republicans remain divided after election

The makeup of the next Alaska Legislature is as uncertain as ever, after redistricting and with nearly every seat up for election.

In both chambers, political observers are wondering if enough like-minded Republicans will get elected to form a majority, or if there will be coalition majorities of moderate Republicans, Democrats and independents.

It’s been that kind of coalition in the House that in recent years has bucked parts of Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s agenda.

With Republicans showing divisions in the state Senate, there’s speculation that a coalition majority could form there as well.

At least that’s what Alaska Beacon reporter James Brooks tells us. Brooks points to the state Senate’s recent history.

Coalition governments?? Here. In America.

Because moderate "Republicans" prefer to align with Democrats.

We'll see what happens on Tuesday.

They don’t call Republicans the stupid party for nothing. That a Republican controlled state legislature would allow this just shows how stupid thay can be.

I blame it all on Mitch McConnell.

This s the state.

There is no such thing as a Moderate Republican. Anyone who calls themselves that is a Democrat playing games, knowing they can’t win as a Dem, so they play to the stupidity of the electorate. And it works

Alaska.

Another state being flooded with liberals moving to Anchorage and Fairbanks, titling the scales like they do in so many other places.

The Murkowski’s are ultimately responsible for the messes in Alaska IMHO.

Elect Kelly Tshibaka for US Senate and Sarah Palin for US House.

This isn’t news at all, it’s been happening in the Alaska Senate for years. Republicans win more seats, then RINOs cozy up to the Rats and give up what they won at the polls.

Definitely nothing new here whatsoever.

About 20 years ago, Colorado was a fairly Red state. It’s long gone to the Dark Blue Side now.

Are we now losing Alaska??

Divisiveness is the name of the game. Currently in NV, somebody is pushing folks to not vote for Laxalt and vote the “independent” candidate if you don’t like cat masstoe. IOW take away votes from laxalt. Wonder where their money is coming from......

I believe that Alaska is a different dynamic. A lot of the people there are independent minded, rugged and libertarian.

Others are addicted to government handouts attached to the unique resources of the state, and its remoteness.

Alaska will be lost. Why? Republicans voted with Democrats to NOT have signature verification on mail in ballots.

Isn’t Colorado yet another example of a few cities and their dense populations being able to dictate the statewide positions? Just like so many other states.

Alaska could definitely be another one

Most of the PROG/LIB/COMMIE/DEMOCRATS I have had the displeasure to know come from warmer climates and really big cities.

2 or 3 winters in Alaska will get rid of most of them.

I still live here in California (unfortunately) but in a very remote high elevation county, we got a lot of libs from Sacramento, San Francisco, and Los Angeles moving up here several years ago.

Most of them were gone in about 2 or 3 years.

Very tough winter time climate, hot summers, nearest lib type entertainment was at least 100 miles away.

Just have a little patience, they WILL LEAVE!
