Mr. Manchin is reading the tea leaves and looking for a path to both survive the next election and position himself sell his vote for pork in order to help stay in office in 2024.
Joe Manchin says these sorts of things and then, as soon as you turn your back, he puts in the knife....
If nothing changes in the Senate split there's no reason for Manchin to switch since he already has the catbird seat. If however the Senate goes solidly red, he and Sinema may switch to the side of the majority. The final Senate balance after they switch could be 55-45.

Biden destroyed Manchin and the state he represents. With the switching of parties, Republicans get all the committees. And he still is in the catbird seat. If the situation arises and he stays where he is, if I’m the Republican running against him, my ad is one of Biden saying what he said and Manchin doing nothing, except whine.
Let’s just hope we wake up Wednesday morning and this is moot.

Manchin sold out West Virginians and is a Judas, and is not fit to join the Republican caucus. We should just run any R down there and make sure they win. Too many RINOs and wishy washy fake Republicans already. Weed them out and fire them.
FWIW, Sinema seems to have more backbone - a matter of degrees, to be sure - than Manchin.
I still disagree with both on a myriad of issues.
