New York Attorney General Letitia James scores win over Trump after judge approves monitor for Trump Organization

A judge approved New York Attorney General Letitia James's request for an independent watchdog to monitor the Trump Organization's stewardship of financial statements while her civil lawsuit plays out in court.

After James petitioned the court last month for an independent monitor until a trial takes place, Judge Arthur Engoron of the New York County State Supreme Court found her office made a strong case for one and ordered former President Donald Trump's company to foot the bill for a monitor that the court will appoint.

"This court will appoint an independent monitor, to be paid by defendants, for the purpose of ensuring compliance with this order," Engoron wrote in the ruling. "If the monitor reasonably determines that defendants have violated this order, the monitor shall immediately report that matter to [James], defendants, and this Court."

In addition to the monitor, the order requires the Trump Organization to give James's office and the court 14 days' notice before transferring certain assets. Engoron set Nov. 10 as a date for both sides to present three candidates to be the monitor.

James had made the request last month amid her pending lawsuit, per Axios. Her office claimed the Trump Organization "appeared to be taking steps to restructure its business to evade the reaches of OAG’s lawsuit" and noted that the Trump Organization "registered a new entity with the New York Secretary of State" on the same day James filed her lawsuit.

Trump fired back in a different state Wednesday, filing a 41-page lawsuit in Florida's 15th Judicial Circuit Court seeking to stop her from obtaining records on a trust used to manage some of his business assets. In the suit, he accused her of waging a "war of intimidation and harassment" against him.

I can’t even read more than a few paragraphs. Trump doesn’t deserve this treatment. Some authority should pull her leash and stop her misuse of her position.

RE: Some authority should pull her leash and stop her misuse of her position.

Which authority are you thinking of?

Not even NY’s governor can stop her. Her’s is an ELECTED office. Only the voters of NY can stop her.

Will a Zelden win have any effect on what this woman is doing?

RE: Will a Zelden win have any effect on what this woman is doing?

Letitia James is up for re-election this November. As AG, I don’t think the governor can stop her from doing her “job”. Hers is an ELECTED position, not an appointed one like the United States AG.

Only voters can take her out ( and it looks like NY State won’t ).

This is a really insane political judge.
If I understand it this case involves alleged undervaluing of real estate to get lower peppery taxes, or overstating value when applying for loans.
Nothing about that would even remotely justify a court taking control of a company’s assets before trial. That’s a very extraordinary form of relief, and one which I believe the US Supreme Court found to be Unconstitutional (pre-judgment seizure of assets).

Thanks. This sort of harassment ought to be a criminal offense.

I wonder if the Bar Association could suspend her license to practice law for prosecutorial harassment.

Nice of her to take time out from her vigorous “law enforcement” to go after Trump.

RE: By now Trump should have moved everything out of NY.

Unfortunately, you can’t move Real Estate ( and it’s too late to sell them now that the case is ongoing ).

RE: she needs to be removed Govenor Zeldin

I don’t think a Gov. Zeldin has the power to remove an ELECTED official. The only way she can be removed is via impeachment or via being voted out of office ( she’s up for re-election this November ).
