The New Cuban Missile Crisis That Isn’t
Published at The Saker with permission ^ | 11/2/2022 | Dmitry Orlov

The Cuban Missile Crisis is a malicious misnomer. Cuba never had any nuclear missiles; it temporarily played host to some Soviet ones. The crisis started when Americans put their intermediate-range nuclear missiles in Turkey that posed a new threat the Soviet Union, which responded by placing similar missiles in Cuba, evening the score. The Americans flew into a rage but eventually calmed down and withdrew their missiles from Turkey. The Soviets withdrew their missiles from Cuba and the crisis was over. And so it should be called the American Missile Crisis.

What’s happening now couldn’t be more different. Unless you spent the last few weeks hiding under a rock, you have probably heard that some sort of new nuclear crisis is underway because of “Putin’s nuclear blackmail” or some such. Some people have suffered nervous exhaustion as a result, neglecting their duties and generally letting themselves go.

You won't see this on "Fox and Friends" so, obviously, it is propaganda. It is "anti-American" to know of such things.

total bs, about the Cuban missile crisis and the current world situation.

Russia puts missiles in Cuba, our fault. Russia invades Ukraine, our fault. Russia keeps threatening to attack nato and use nuclear weapons, our fault.

We fall for it, our fault.

We had missiles in Turkey which is directly across the Black Sea from, what was then, the Soviet Union.

Kennedy withdrew those missiles per the agreement made with Khrushchev, who then agreed to withdraw the Russian missiles from Cuba.

So says Williams, toothless warmonger firmly in the grip of dotage, in blind defense of the one country that has earned the distinction of dropping atomic bombs on civilians, warning the country who has not dropped atomic bombs on anyone against this practice.

You are like a wind up toy. Everything that doesn’t fit your warped view of the world is propaganda.

“The problem for the collective West is simply this: 80% of the world’s population has refused to join it in condemning, sanctioning or otherwise punishing Russia, with some very large countries (China, India) either supportive or neutral on the subject.”

And yet all but 4 countries (the usual suspects) refused to accept Putin’s fake referendum. So it’s not so cut and dry.

The missiles in Turkey were there to counter the medium-and intermediate range ballistic missiles in the western USSR that threatened Western Europe. And those missiles were still there after we withdrew our missiles from Turkey.

It is anti-American: it's the same hate-America bilge water propaganda I used to read from Communists during the Cold War.

Only now I get to see the same garbage on FR.

There was never any moral equivalence between the United States and the Soviet Union. The US was in a position of unparalleled power in 1945 and didn't seize any territory or impose dictatorships on anyone. The Soviet Union was a belligerent ally of Nazi Germany from 1939 - 1941, resumed its conquests in 1944 - 45, and then sponsored subversive Communist dictator wannabees all over the world.

I understand your points—but one thing we did have in common with the Soviet Union was Deep State controlled mass media.

Operation Mockingbird it was called.

As other posters have noted they lied to us about JFK’s capitulation on nukes in Turkey—and a lot of other things.

Of course it’s cut and dry. Might makes right. Pretending the world doesn’t work that way is just silly. China takes Tibet and that’s that. Turkey takes half of Cyprus and that’s that. North Vietnam takes South Vietnam and that’s that.

Russia is getting ready for a major offensive. This time around they will not be under any illusions that the Ukranians are their cousins and that they should wage war in such a manner to minimize casualties and to avoid harm to civilians. When the tanks roll soon, it will be very hard on the Ukrainians. Then they will surrender. The west will complain, but that will be that.

“There was never any moral equivalence between the United States and the Soviet Union.”

A declaration hammered home by the dropping of atomic bombs on civilians.

If it would not be for the US most Ukrainians still would have a roof over their heads and sleep in their own beds and this war would be over by now. Probably the eastern portion of the Ukraine which has a large portion of ethnic Russians and was constantly assaulted and antagonized by radical groups would have been annexed by Russia and things eventually would have settled down. The same goes for Europe if they had not jumped on the US bandwagon. The US purposely damaged the gas supply lines, or it was done under their directions; making sure that Europe in general and Germany in particular remains dependent on the US like a colony, just in case they may come to their senses and change their mind.

Those days when Russia had any ideas of expansion are long gone and over with and things of the past as Russia has more than enough and then some on its plate to take care of. All they want is a quiet neighborhood without NATO or CIA manipulation and intervention. Just like the US likes to keep their backyard free of any intruders, as expressed in the Monroe Doctrine. But the warmongers within the US government along with their associates and friends keep egging them on, knowing that a peaceful coexistence is bad for the production of war materials, especially the military industrial complex as well as the globalists, cranking out wartime supplies like there is no tomorrow and if they keep it up there may not be one. So, they keep stirring the pot until it will boil over and it isn’t too far from doing just that.

The installation of the missiles in Turkey was not a cause of the Soviet installation in Cuba. Barring an all out nuclear war, they would never have been used, which the Soviets knew. Castro pushed Khrushchev to install them. In fact, he asked the Soviets to give the Cuban Communist regime its own nukes, such was his hatred of the US. Khrushchev instead agreed to put the Soviet nukes into Cuba to placate Castro, triggering the missile crisis.

There was also a fundamental change in the national security apparatus of the US brought about by the Democrats' "Church Commission" which effectively destroyed the pro-American CIA and turned it into the bureaucratic handmaiden of whoever was in control of DC. Ever since then the agency has functioned as a foreign policy propaganda organ of those in power, providing "intelligence" to back whatever policy was preferred by the poobahs while studiously ignoring reality such as the collapse of the Soviet Union and the growing threat of al Queda.

As an American it pains me to say this, but the best advice I can give to foreigners is, never take the advice of Americans.

My only point about the missiles in Turkey is that JFK capitulated and removed them—in secret.

As for the Church Committee—all they did was remind the Deep State to bury their secrets deeper—including outsourcing more of them to private sector contractors (some of which were front corporations and others were legit corporations with lobbyist “connections” in DC).
