New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) appointed Laura Kavanagh as commissioner of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) on Thursday, making her the first woman to hold the role.
Kavanagh has served as acting commissioner since February, when her predecessor Daniel Nigro retired after serving in the role for about eight years. She served as first deputy commissioner before her appointment to the role in an acting capacity.

Did she ever fight a fire????
Grew up in San Fran, worked for the campaign of Caliph Baraq, then DiBlasio. Basically about as qualified for the job as my Golden Retriever.
“Well that sounds very stylish.”
First this, first that... 5000th face-palm
Oh, no 'u'? Nevermind
Sounds like she is some political hack who has been working in Dem Party operations and cannot tell smoke from fire. Good luck with this one, FDNY
She worked for DeBlasio. It looks like this is purely management...and that she’s not really a fire fighter...but I’ll have to check further.
“Yes, I know your building is on fire but we are waiting until we have enough firefighters of color to come to your building.”
She is NOT and never has been a fire fighter. I’m sure there are a lot of seasoned firemen who deserved the job.
On 9-11, there were no female firefighters lost in the World Trade Center. None. I wonder if she’s ever actually fought a fire? And one is not enough.
In other words...she swallows. NYFD members will have a hard time accepting her as she has never worked a day in the department she will be in charge of. That usually never goes over well.
Nope...never served a day as a firefighter. She's a swallower, a reject from de Blasio's office.
A woman doesn’t belong in the fire department, much less head of it.
According to news reports she was never a firefighter.
This is a civilian role.
The job that requires fire fighting experience is Chief of Department

“She previously worked at City Hall as a special assistant to former Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) and in management and campaign consulting with nonprofits, community-based organizations and unions, according to the mayor’s office.”
She’s qualified alright- for NY chitty

Show me the film of her breaking down a door or carrying an adult person out of a fire on her shoulders. I want receipts otherwise all they have is a Hollywood affirmative action hire.
In a town close to me, the chief of ~30 years announced his retirement from the fire department, selectboard starts process to find a replacement. A woman on the department expresses an interest in being chief - and then makes it clear that if any questions during the interview relate to her being a woman, she will sue the town - so no one dares asks, and she gets hired.
Thus becomes first female chief in my state.
Keep in mind, this is a pretty small town - less than 1K residents, and primarily a volunteer department.
She comes to the very first town meeting where budgets for the upcoming year and debated and set and says she needs a brand new personal fire chief vehicle for about $40K (previous chief just used his personal vehicle to get to the scene ahead of the firetrucks) and her reasoning was, and I quote:
“As a female I don’t feel safe pulling up a strangers driveway without an official vehicle that tells people who I am”.
Wonder how many males would have gotten away with that bullsh*t?
