A pair of pranksters posing as laid-off Twitter employees tricked multiple media outlets Friday as the public anxiously awaited news on whether Elon Musk had begun axing staffers.
CNBC’s Deirdre Bosa interviewed two people who identified themselves as Twitter employees and were seen near the company’s San Francisco headquarters carrying cardboard boxes.
Skepticism immediately emerged on social media. One of the pranksters said his name was “Rahul Ligma” — a reference to a popular internet meme — and held a copy of Michelle Obama’s book “Becoming” aloft while speaking to reporters. The other said his name was “Daniel Johnson.”
CNBC, Bloomberg, the Daily Mail and NBC were among the outlets that reported layoffs were underway after the duo spoke to the media.

Brilliant! 😂😂
Bwahaha...
That was a pretty cool prank. Just seeing the guy holding up the Michel Obama book was hillarious.
I’m sure it was, but someone still bought.
Don’t forget Sum Yung Gui.
“Reporters”
Flip Wilson had a skit something like this. There was a group of protestors walking in a circle and one told a passerby he was tired and wanted to get a drink and convinced the passerby to hold his sign and march in a circle with a group. Next thing the passerby knew a news truck rolled in and a female reporter charged out to him and started asking him questions. He ad-libbed it saying they wanted more pay and less hours. They asked him what he did and he started describing how he worked on the main frame.
You’re probably right. It is San Francisco, most likely used for toilet paper by the homeless.
I did. Of course.
I came up with a ton of hits on the fake Twitter employees, with the information that it was an internet meme popular in 2020. Since I did not want to spend much time tracking it down, I asked on FR, thinking someone might explain it in a few words. That did not happen.
Their last names together form a popular Internet meme: “Ligma Johnson.”
So these media types lamenting the potential loss of “fact checkers” get trolled into publishing “disinformation”? Clever.
The book blew their cover, even left wing journalists had to wonder if anyone could really be reading Michelle Obama’s book.
“Daniel” was believable until toward the end. He said he was a programmer/coder and 30 had been let go. They asked how he was told and he said his boss was kind enough to tell them in person. He talked about admiring Musk up until now....and then it went downhill about Nazis, trans and having both a Husband and a Wife. lol
I haven’t laughed this hard in awhile. The media deserves nothing but mockery and ridicule.
Sue all involved for liable. Yes that includes the fake media.
Bravo, Bravo !!
Funny, funny stuff.
Lololol
Yes, that was the jump the shark moment. Too clever by half. Every liberal journalist (and that's all of them) know that it was just a coffee table book, never intended to ever be read.
Otherwise it was a great prank. They just overreached.
