A fatal car crash that killed four teenagers has been linked to the popular Kia Challenge on TikTok.

Buffalo police say that six people were in a stolen Kia Sportage vehicle that crashed just before 7am on Monday in the upstate New York city.

Three of the victims died at the scene and a fourth died later at a hospital. Investigators say that the dead were all aged between 14 and 19.

A 14-year-old girl was hospitalised but has now been taken out of intensive care.

The victims have been named as Marcus Webster, 19; Swazine Swindle, 17; Kevin Payne, 16; and Ahjanae Harper, 14, reports WHAM.

“It’s a horrific morning for the families, their friends, our police officers and our investigators and fire department that were there investigating this,” said Buffalo Police commissioner Joseph Gramaglia.

“This is a terrible, terrible outcome for such young kids that had their entire lives in front of them.”

The driver of the Kia, a 16-year-old male who has not been identified, was treated at hospital and released into the custody of Buffalo Police.

He was charged with third-degree unauthorised use of a vehicle and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He is due back in court on 15 November.

The police chief says that investigators believe that the Kia was stolen on Sunday night and have linked the theft to the TikTok craze.

The trend on the social media platform shows people how to hotwire and steal Kia models built in the last decade without a key using just a USB cable.

These are not "victims." They are car thieves.

One of the 14 year old victims was already a mother.
They really know how to raise them in Buffalo.

When they mentioned a challenge I thought it was something like Kia's are supposed to be safe so they crashed it to prove how safe it was.

The challenge really had nothing to do with it. That was just how they stole the car. They didn't have to then go and crash it.

Some Kias and Hyundais apparently can be started with a USB cable. Back in the day most GM cars could be stolen with a paper clip. That’s all you need to take the dashboard mounted ignition switch apart then hot wire it. That’s why, except for the soon to be discontinued Corvair GMs built since 1968 have the ignition switch the steering column.

Reminds me of the old joke, What's more difficult than getting 15 pregnant women in a VW?
Getting 15 women pregnant in a VW. 😀😜

Wow, I just watch something about this gang today, and they are a gang.
They have been stealing thousands of Kia’s and smashing them into things.
They interviewed a couple of them. They said that they are not worried about jail, because it’s only a misdemeanor charge.

It’s called hot wiring. It’s amazing that Kia has such a flaw honestly. Good cars.

It’s more amazing that the US press is amazed that you can start a car by taking the “bottom cowling of the steering wheel off”….

A mother of an infant who just happened to be out on a joyride in a stolen car.

How long until the families sue TikTok for having content teaching the “victims” how to steal KIAs? KIA must also pay billions, for victimizing the thieves by making stealable vehicles.

Other question: Why hasn’t the driver been charged with 4 counts of vehicular homicide during commission of a crime?

Can’t they be both thieves and victims?

What is they stole the car but someone shot them at a stop nearby stop light?

Stupid kids doing stupid things. Prayers for the families.

And I hope the owner of the car gets full payment for the lost car.
