As the midterm elections quickly approach, Americans across the country are discussing their thoughts on trending policy topics with family, friends and colleagues. Just how truthful they are in those conversations, however, is now a reasonable question to consider. A new study from Populace Insights shines light on how deeply American adults are affected by social pressure to fit in, especially when it comes to hot-button political issues.
The report’s findings suggest that American popular culture, and the desire to fit into it, makes the American people look far more politically extreme than they really are. The study uses a clever methodology to measure agreement with statements that people might feel social pressure to reject, even in a private online survey. Differences between stated and privately held opinions were as high as 14 percentage points among all Americans and soared even higher among certain subgroups.

Maybe your town is a lot less lib than your perception!
LOL- no....you’re not even close
I live two miles from the clinton’s
You gotta watch out for the “tolerance” crowd “fighting hate”....
;-)
A volunteer for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) was brutally attacked while canvassing for the campaign in Hialeah, Florida, leaving him with a broken jaw and internal bleeding.
No kidding. How much can one take from the raids, to the attacks, assaults, vandalism, cancelling, threats, and even murder can one see before you “quiet quit” having any discussion about your opinions before you vote.
Actually, I would have loved it.
I enjoy, deeply, the flow of liberal tears and enjoy talking to rational people.
It always felt bad to call people, but my part of the gig was making sure that the callers asked the questions with the most neutral phrasing/tone of voice and as nicely as possible. It’s *really* easy to get any result you want with a poll; getting actual accurate data is a whole ‘nother thing.
However we were doing private research for campaigns, where accuracy is important (it devolves down to ‘where should the candidate spend their limited funds). Most pollsters are like professional athletes- it’s not the name of the team, it’s how good you are that determines the career path. Most pollsters no more care if they are working for a MAGA or a far-left politician, they care about nailing the result, just like a pitcher or quarterback is going to give it their best no matter the team; at least when and where I worked as one.
Lots of polls are completely made up, for psych-ops reasons, to either inspire or depress a target audience.
California is probably a lost cause, thanks mostly to the open borders of the Bush crime family, but I’d rather fight a rear-guard action that pull up stakes and move to saner pastures.
Good for you! I don’t hide my beliefs either. Although lately the pro-Liz Cheney RINO bunch is fun to taunt! I just wear my camo MAGA hat in town and enjoy their glares!!
But you still becoming one of them. Normally only a countercultural type would want to expose a child to profanity but now you’ve joined them.
LOL- sure. Whatever you say Mr Righteous. Lemme guess- your happy there’s no more mean tweets.
Playing nice and playing patty cakes is why the GOP is in its present state and always plays from behind.
I could lose my job if I were outspoken. So I play it more subtle and point out hypocrisies that can be arguable on either side so that they cannot claim I was one side or the other.
A friend is at a NY public employees union convention. Normally the Republicans have kept quiet because they were outnumbered. It looks like the union reps are split 50-50 now.
All the speakers are democrats, some are candidates for office. They’ve been razzed and laughed at when they’ve said ridiculous things like, the democrats brought integrity back to government. Someone shouted out is this a union convention or the democrat convention. A black speaker was called a racist in a meet and greet for pushing his equity nonsense.
My friend said that today, on day 3, the speakers are almost begging them to help get out the vote for democrats. It’s been fun getting updates in real time from this convention.
Great to hear!!! Have to play their game and play it better.
Its funny that union reps are 50-50 because outside of NYC, there are probably more Republican union members. Even in the outlying areas of the Bronx as well.
I lie to ALL pollsters. Got another one just last night about the PA senate race. I told them that I simply ADORE John Fetterman and I can’t WAIT to vote for him in two weeks.
Then I hang up and say, “A Fetterman says WHAT??”
I don’t hide mine, well except at my woke ass corporation. Also removed anything on my vehicles that would indicate my views.
Dumb @sses now days will trash your vehicle.
For conservatives, life in the US is becoming like lives of Christians living in Muslim countries.
This is a part (not the ONLY part) of the process that I still cannot understand. At 77 I've been voting for 56 years and I have NEVER...NOT ONCE...been swayed by a radio/TV ad, flyer, poster, mail out or celebrity endorsement to vote for ANY candidate. Yet candidates that I may favor continue to beg and borrow to funnel money for TV ads into media networks that will turn around and disparage them on their news and/or opinion shows. Kinda like giving bullets to the enemy...WHY would they want to do that?!?!
Anywho, now you see what I mean about prolly just wasting yer time. LOL 😜
Ever try to talk to my whackjob SIL?
Thought not.
