Kyiv (Ukraine) (AFP) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday asked the international community to cover an expected budget deficit of $38 billion next year for his war-torn country, with Moscow's invasion also badly hitting the economy.
At an international reconstruction conference for Ukraine in Berlin, Zelensky urged European leaders to offer greater financial support for his country more than eight months after Vladimir Putin sent Russian troops into Ukraine.
"At this very conference we need to make a decision on assistance to cover next year's budget deficit for Ukraine," Zelensky said via video-link. "It's a very significant amount of money, a $38 billion deficit," he added.

They should lend it at market rates, but with a slight discount due to distressed circumstances. No free rides. And that’s not mean-spirited, it’s respect.

Very fortunate your father was able to leave Hungary. I hope he was able to share his experience. My grandfather fought in the Spanish civil war. He managed to get my grandmother and my mom out of Madrid to a safer and rural area in Spain, which was a difficult task. I was born under Franco’s regime.
People today have no idea what hardship really means.

That thought is archaic and passe.
Ukraine is now supported by much of the world and the corruption is a thing of the past. Defeating Russia is where it currently is at.
