Rishi Sunak to become first British PM of colour and also first Hindu at No 10

Rishi Sunak is about to become the UK’s first prime minister of colour and the first Hindu prime minister, both milestones in Britain’s evolution as a multicultural and multi-faith society.

Although there has been a marked increase in politicians of colour being appointed to senior cabinet roles, including the key posts of chancellor, home secretary and foreign secretary, the UK has never had a black or brown prime minister before.

It was “an historic moment” that “simply would not have been possible even a decade or two ago,” said Sunder Katwala of the British Future thinktank, .

“It shows that public service in the highest office in Britain can be open to those of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds. This will be a source of pride to many British Asians – including many who do not share Rishi Sunak’s Conservative politics.”

Sunak is a practising Hindu, although he has rarely talked publicly about his faith. He was named as the UK’s next leader on Diwali, the festival of lights celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. It celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

...Sunak’s parents are of Indian descent. His father, Yashvir, was born in Kenya and his mother, Usha, in Tanzania. They migrated to the UK in the 1960s.

The families of a clutch of other senior Conservative MPs, including Priti Patel, Braverman, Cleverly and Kwarteng, also emigrated to the UK from east and west Africa.

The Guardian focusing on the colour of his skin.

Nite that it was the Conservative party that brought him to the premiership. Just like the first female prime minister was from the conservatives

May England’s “historic” milestone not be as destructive to their society as America’s “historic” milestone was to our’s.

I think a global economic depression is coming, with the possibility of multiple battlefronts as well.

First prime minister with more money than the king, too - about $850 million.

Reportedly far more conservative than Liz Truss, who angered many by refusing to stop the migrant Channel invasion.

I highly doubt that’s more than the Royal family’s worth.

I THINK that the TITANIC (in this case Great Britian) has struck an iceberg and they are re arranging the deck chairs on a sinking empire. They went from a female PM who had no white males in leadership to a brown hindu who is in favor of digital id currency yeah that will work well. See ya Britannia it was nice knowing you!

Wondering out loud how he will regard the muslim mayor of London and muslims in general and how muslims will regard him.

its hard to come back from the precipice when the gov’t gives away so much free stuff like ObamaBiden are trying to do

Free stuff is an easy sell and it gets votes.

Personal responsibility not so much.

Sacred Cows wandering around on Downing Street.
Hopefully their flatulence doesn’t change the climate.

I predict a Civil War in Britain down the road between Hindus and Muslims.

It’s ironic.

Britain ruled India for 200 years.

Now, Britain will be ruled by an Indian...

Britain ruled India for 200 years.

"India" also included what is now Pakistan.

Let’s see if he is a true conservative and not a Boris Johnson “conservative.”

I get the distinct impression that British "conservatives" are about where Barack Obama is on the political spectrum - rational enough to realize that wokism is bad politics, but hell-bent on government intrusion into all aspects of life anyway.
