Not surprising. painting your adversaries as monsters is standard for warfare. Killing your fellow man is difficult, but killing a monster is easy. Look at how we characterized the Japanese and Germans during ww2, or more recently, Muslims. Russia has struggled between “Our Brother slavs“, inferior dunces and “nazi monsters”.
